Turn Your Passion for Music Into Meaningful Impact.

TERI is seeking a Behavior Support & Music Enrichment Professional to help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities build confidence, communication skills, independence, and meaningful connections through music and person-centered support.

This unique position combines behavior support, direct care, music enrichment, and community engagement. You'll implement individualized behavior and support plans while developing adapted music experiences that use rhythm, instruments, singing, songwriting, music appreciation, and creative expression to promote communication, emotional wellness, social engagement, and meaningful participation.

This is not a traditional music instructor position. You will serve as a Direct Support Professional first, providing behavioral support, personal care when needed, transportation, documentation, and community-based services while incorporating music and creative enrichment into participants' daily experiences.

Your Role & Responsibilities –

  • Implement individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and instructional strategies while providing positive behavioral support and approved crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Develop and facilitate adapted music activities, including rhythm, percussion, instrument exploration, singing, songwriting, music appreciation, basic music skills, and creative expression.
  • Adapt music instruction and activities to accommodate participants' behavioral, cognitive, physical, sensory, and communication needs while promoting confidence, independence, and meaningful participation.
  • Provide direct support with activities of daily living, including personal care, meals, mobility, money skills, shopping, medication support, and other individualized needs.
  • Facilitate community-based experiences, including music and cultural events, recreation, volunteer opportunities, wellness activities, and other opportunities that promote inclusion and community participation.
  • Collect behavioral and program data and maintain accurate documentation of participant progress, services, incidents, medication support, community participation, and individualized goals.
  • Collaborate with CAL leadership, behavior services, families, and other interdisciplinary team members while safely transporting participants and supporting their health, safety, dignity, and choice.

Qualifications –

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Recreational Therapy, Creative Arts, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, significant behavioral needs, or related populations strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated musical ability and experience with music instruction, instruments, singing, rhythm, songwriting, recreational music programming, or other forms of music enrichment.
  • Ability to adapt music activities and instruction for individuals with varying behavioral, cognitive, physical, sensory, and communication support needs.
  • Valid California Driver's License with an acceptable driving record and ability to obtain and maintain required CPR/First Aid, behavior support, safety, medication, transportation, and program-specific training.
