The University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work invites applications for the Director of Practicum Education. This full-time Appointment-Stream (open rank; non-tenure track) faculty position will provide leadership for our Practicum Team (currently including 5 full-time faculty members) that serves Pitt’s BASW and MSW programs. The School of Social Work seeks a colleague who brings a strong background in academic excellence and innovation, demonstrated collaborative leadership and administrative skills, and commitment to a diverse, inclusive, welcoming, and forward-thinking culture that embraces student-centered and quality-improvement focused practice. We are particularly interested in candidates who are attuned to current directions and cutting-edge issues in practicum education, bring both social work practice and higher education experience, and can work with a team of experienced practicum faculty and others to promote processes, practices, and technologies that will allow both our face-to-face and online students to experience responsive, supportive, and excellent practicum education. Strong candidates will have demonstrated commitment to and passion for practicum education; ability to work collaboratively to develop and implement a clear vision and direction; excellent interpersonal skills with colleagues, students, and agency partners; experience with CSWE accreditation; and a demonstrated ability to bring people together to find and support creative, successful, and sustainable approaches.

This is an exciting time to join the school. This fall, we welcomed our first cohort of online MSW students. The School is consistently ranked among the top schools of social work in the nation. It is known for its strong educational programs (BASW, MSW [micro and macro], and Ph.D.); innovative, interdisciplinary, diverse, and productive faculty; and national leadership via long-standing and emerging programs and centers on race, child welfare, mental health, and other domains. This combination of resources, activities, and colleagues within and beyond the School creates an intellectually stimulating and supportive environment.

We are seeking a colleague to begin as early as January 2026 and not later than summer 2026. The position requires an MSW and at least 5 years of post-MSW practice experience. Competitive applicants will bring demonstrated experience and expertise in practicum education and academic administration. The position also requires demonstrated evidence of the ability to lead efforts with software and technology that promote excellence, efficiency, transparency, and accountability. We seek someone who is actively engaged in national conversations and efforts around improving practicum education. The most competitive applicants will show educational engagement beyond the MSW (doctorate or certificates/credentials relevant to the position). We are seeking someone with the collaborative, leadership, visioning, administrative, and implementation skills to make Pitt a national leader in practicum education.
