About the Role:
Mahzu Japanese Restaurant in Freehold, NJ is looking for a passionate and motivated Sushi Helper to join our team! This is a fantastic opportunity to learn the art of sushi preparation in an authentic Japanese restaurant environment. Responsibilities:
- Assist sushi chefs with daily prep work including rice preparation, fish cutting, and ingredient portioning
- Maintain a clean and organized sushi bar and prep station
- Support the rolling and plating of maki, nigiri, and specialty sushi rolls
- Receive and properly store fresh fish and seafood deliveries
- Follow food safety and sanitation standards at all times
- Restock ingredients and supplies throughout service
- Assist with opening and closing kitchen duties as needed
Requirements:
- Prior kitchen or food service experience preferred but not required
- Willingness to learn sushi preparation techniques and Japanese culinary traditions
- Ability to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs
- Food handler certification or willingness to obtain one
