What You Will Contribute to OHM Advisors 

As a Senior Survey Technician, you will lead field survey operations that support the successful delivery of a wide range of projects, including transportation, municipal, commercial, and land development work. Working closely with Professional Surveyors and project teams, you will oversee survey crews, coordinate daily field activities, and ensure the accurate collection, documentation, and processing of survey data. Your technical expertise, leadership, and commitment to safety and quality will help deliver precise, reliable results while keeping projects on schedule and within scope. Your Responsibilities 

Project Planning & Leadership:

  • Collaborate with Professional Surveyors to develop project plans, including scope, schedules, staffing, budgets, and timelines.
  • Communicate project requirements to survey crews and manage assigned resources to meet project objectives.
  • Lead, train, coach, and mentor Survey Crew members, assigning work and reviewing calculations, field notes, and overall performance.
  • Share project updates and field observations with project teams and leadership.

Survey Operations:

  • Perform and oversee topographic, boundary, construction, as-built, profile, cross-section, and construction layout surveys.
  • Calculate parcel, lot, easement, and right-of-way locations using tax and title information.
  • Prepare easement and right-of-way descriptions, drawings, and process/review field data to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate field documentation and provide technical expertise on surveying methods, procedures, and construction-related issues.

Safety, Quality & Compliance:

  • Promote a safe work environment by following company and site-specific health and safety requirements, including appropriate PPE and required certifications.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local surveying regulations and company QA/QC standards by verifying the accuracy and quality of completed work.

Field Work & Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with clients, project teams, and leadership throughout all phases of the project.
  • Perform field work and physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs., clearing lines, setting monuments, pounding stakes, locating underground utilities, and working in both field and office environments as needed.

Education, Experience & Licensure: 

  • 10 years of experience with land surveying. 
  • Must have experience in all types of surveying equipment and procedures. 
  • Must have a valid and current driver’s license. 

 Technical Skills: 

  • Experience with Carlson, Civil3D, and MicroStation ORD preferred. 
  • Strong aptitude for mathematics, specifically trigonometry and geometry. 
  • Familiarity with DOT survey standards preferred. 
  • Proven ability to manage people and projects. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel). 
  • Physical requirements include indoor and outdoor work, various temperatures and weather conditions, driving, lifting, carrying, reaching, bending, kneeling, crawling, walking, sitting, and standing.
