About the Albuquerque Community Foundation & New Mexico Community Trust

The Albuquerque Community Foundation (“ACF”) is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public charity created by and for people in the greater Albuquerque area, with Assets Under Management of nearly $200 million. ACF administers a permanent community endowment comprised of many gifts, large and small, and uses those resources to support nonprofit organizations and educational institutions. We serve primarily the four-county area of Valencia, Bernalillo, Torrance, and Sandoval counties, while maintaining a broader vision to lead in community philanthropy across New Mexico and beyond.

 

ACF serves as the sole member of the New Mexico Community Trust (“NMCT”), a statewide 501(c)(3) organization that extends our reach and impact across New Mexico. NMCT enables the Foundation to partner with communities, public agencies, and funders on large-scale initiatives, fiscal sponsorships, and collaborative funding efforts that address critical needs across the state.

Position Summary 

The Development Associate (internal title: Donor Services Associate) supports nonprofit development and fundraising operations through donor database management, gift processing, donor stewardship, and donor communications. Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Associate helps coordinate fundholder onboarding, acknowledgement activities, fundraising events, and engagement initiatives aligned with the Foundation’s Strategic Plan, while maintaining accurate donor records and materials.


This role suits someone early in a development career who wants to learn the field from the inside, and it also suits an experienced professional who enjoys detailed, donor facing work at an established foundation.

 

Main Job Responsibilities 

Donor Relations & Department Support 

  • Provide excellent customer service to donors, fundholders, and professional advisors. 
  • Assist with donor engagement activities including scheduling, meeting prep, follow-up communication, and mailings. 
  • Support the onboarding process for new fundholders by preparing and tracking fundholder materials and forms. 
  • Coordinate regular donor acknowledgment processes such as thank-you letters, calls, and other touchpoints. 
  • Process check deposits. 
  • Help prepare fund agreements and amendments as directed. 

Database & Record Management 

  • Maintain accurate donor and prospect records in the Foundation’s database called Community Suite and other tools. 
  • Generate reports and donor lists for mailings, campaigns, and outreach efforts. 
  • Organize and update development-related materials including fund agreements, giving handouts, and quarterly fundraising letters. 

Event Support 

  • Provide administrative and logistical support for donor-related events, including invitation tracking, registration, and follow-up. 
  • Assist with donor education and engagement events such as Lunch & Learns, the Annual Donor Party, and community tours. 
  • Provide administrative support to all Giving Circles at the Foundation 
  • Provide support to the Development team on the coordination of the Foundation’s Estate Planning Conference and any donor related event 

Campaign & Committee Assistance 

  • Support Foundation campaigns and solicitations and help track engagement and renewals. 
  • Provide administrative support to the Vice President of Development and the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees, including preparing materials and note-taking as needed. 


Other Responsibilities: 

Team Collaboration: 

  • Collaborate with other members of the development team to ensure a coordinated approach to fundraising and donor engagement. 
  • Participate in Foundation-wide events, meetings, and initiatives as needed. 

Community Engagement: 

  • Represent the Albuquerque Community Foundation at community events, networking functions, and other public forums to raise awareness of the Foundation’s work and attract new supporters. 
  • Stay informed about community needs, challenges, and opportunities to align fundraising efforts with the Foundation’s mission.

Qualifications and Skills Required: 

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience 
  • 1–2 years of experience in administrative support, nonprofit, development, or customer service roles 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects at once

  • Proficiency in MS Office products  
  • Knowledge and experience with database management

  • Must be available to attend Foundation events and interact positively with attendees 
  • Engaging interpersonal communication style.

Work Environment 

This role is designated as fully in-person, working primarily in-office in our downtown Albuquerque location. Evening, weekend or irregular hours may be required. Reimbursable travel throughout the four county areas comprising the Greater Albuquerque Metropolitan Area is required. Occasional reimbursable travel outside that area may be required from time to time. The Foundation operates with a small staff. All staff members are expected to participate as needed in all areas.
