The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in overseeing all aspects of Bakery Department operations to achieve sales, profitability, customer service, and operational objectives. This position assists with team leadership, product production, merchandising, inventory management, food safety compliance, and maintaining high standards of quality and presentation throughout the department.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations- Assist in managing daily Bakery Department operations.
- Ensure bakery products are properly prepared, packaged, stocked, rotated, and displayed.
- Maintain product quality, freshness, and presentation standards.
- Assist with ordering, inventory management, and shrink control.
- Ensure pricing, signage, and promotional displays are accurate and executed according to company standards.
- Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and equipment readiness.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and create a positive shopping experience.
- Assist customers with product selection, custom cake orders, special requests, and product information.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Promote bakery items, seasonal products, and department programs.
- Build customer loyalty through product knowledge and service excellence.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and coaching department associates.
- Provide daily direction and support to team members.
- Help develop schedules that support customer service and production needs.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
- Reinforce company policies, procedures, and customer service expectations.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements.
- Monitor proper handling, preparation, labeling, storage, and rotation of bakery products.
- Conduct routine quality and freshness inspections.
- Support department audits, inspections, and corrective action plans.
- Ensure safe operation and maintenance of bakery equipment.
- Assist in achieving department sales, gross profit, labor, and shrink objectives.
- Monitor inventory levels and production quantities to reduce waste.
- Support expense control and productivity initiatives.
- Assist with maintaining inventory accuracy and controlling operating costs.
- Contribute to plans that improve department performance and profitability.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous bakery, food service, restaurant, or grocery experience required.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Knowledge of bakery production, merchandising, inventory management, food safety, and sanitation practices.
- Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively lead and motivate employees in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and move products weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance when necessary.
- Ability to work around ovens, mixers, refrigeration equipment, and food preparation areas.
- Ability to safely operate bakery equipment and tools.

- Frequent exposure to food preparation equipment, temperature variations, and cleaning chemicals.
- Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
