JOB SUMMARY

Industrial Painter, Water DistributionAnnual Salary Range: $33,219.89 - $49,829.83 Grade: 19-The City of Alexandria is seeking professional individuals to begin a career in the Water Production Department, located in the heart of Central Louisiana, to perform skilled trades work in the application of paint and similar materials to various surfaces, to include all preparation, repair work, and cleanup related to the completion of each job.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Requires working in industrial settings with moderately dangerous environmental conditions (e.g. climbing elevated water tanks) and working with specialized materials.-- -Inspects surfaces to determine necessary preparations prior to the application of paint, stain, sealers, lacquers, bleaches, fillers and related materials; climbs and inspects the condition of elevated water tanks. Prepares safety gear and harnesses at the worksite to establish a safe working environment at elevated heights; erects and removes scaffolding for use in painting higher areas. Prepares interior and exterior surfaces for painting using sandpaper, pressure washers, burners, scrapers, sanding machines and chemical compounds. Determines type and amount of paint, stain, sealer or other material and mixes and matches paints and stains using proper proportions of pigments, base and thinner. Applies paints, lacquer, varnishes, sealers, bleaches, filler and stains to the interior and exterior of buildings, furniture, equipment, streets, parking lots, crosswalks and related areas. Prepares estimates of time and materials required for assigned projects; maintains inventory of material and equipment required for the trade; makes daily checks of equipment for safety purposes and to ensure proper working condition and repairs. Performs other related technical tasks; prepares surfaces for wallpaper application and applies paper; cuts glass and replaces windowpanes; finishes sheetrock ad other surfaces with sheetrock compound; applies textures and glazings to create or match special finishes; mixes and applies blown acoustic ceilings. Receives and reviews work orders, purchase orders, paint color history cards, MSDS documentation and related information.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by three (3) years of experience as a painter in an industrial or commercial setting; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.- Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification. Work Hours: 40 hours per week; may work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
