About the Role

van den Boom & Associates is a life sciences focused firm that specializes in supporting VC-backed life science companies through outsourced finance, accounting, contracts management, People/HR and IT support, as well as the Office of the CFO through transaction support, technical accounting, audit readiness, staff augmentation, and SOX implementations/compliance. We are looking for an Accounting Manager to join our internal operations team to manage our internal finance & accounting tasks!

Reporting to our Senior Manager of Accounting, this role oversees and reviews the work of our Accounting Coordinators and owns reviewing close, payroll, AP, financial reporting, and leading projects related to finance/accounting.

Key Responsibilities

Review & Oversight

  • Review the work of Accounting Coordinator(s) across day-to-day internal accounting functions, providing coaching and feedback.

  • Review the month-end close, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery.

  • Review payroll processing, including US payroll and Philippines payroll.

  • Review accounts payable, ensuring transactions are properly recorded, approved, and paid.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare, review, and deliver internal financial reports to firm leadership.

  • Maintain firm accounting records and ensure the integrity of the general ledger.

  • Analyze results, trends, and opportunities for leadership.

Projects & Process Improvement

  • Own special accounting projects and higher-complexity work.

  • Identify, scope, and implement improvements to accounting processes and systems.

  • Support system implementations and migrations, and help build repeatable, well-documented workflows.

  • Perform other related duties or projects as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field of study.

  • Progressive professional accounting experience, including experience reviewing others’ work (close, payroll, and/or AP).

  • Strong command of month-end close, payroll, accounts payable, and financial reporting.

  • Advanced Excel skills (vlookups, pivot tables, complex formulas).

  • Self-directed and hands-on, able to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple competing priorities.

  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with acute attention to detail.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Preferred

  • Experience leading or supporting system improvements & implementations.

  • Experience with Ramp, Rillet, QuickBooks or Bill.com.

  • Experience with using Asana for project management.

  • Prior experience reviewing payroll across multiple entities or geographies (Philippines a plus, but not required).

What We’re Looking For

  • A reviewer and coach who elevates the work of the team, not just their own output.

  • Someone comfortable owning judgment-heavy work (close review, reporting, and projects) rather than routine execution.

  • High integrity and discretion given the sensitivity of firm financial data.

  • A fast learner who is organized, adaptable, and energized by a fast-paced, growing environment.
