About the Position

Greater Vision Healthcare Services is seeking a dependable and compassionate Driver – Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide safe and reliable transportation for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This position is primarily responsible for transporting residents to and from scheduled programs, medical appointments, community activities, and other approved destinations. Because this is also a Direct Support Professional position, the Driver DSP may assist residents with mobility, supervision, activities, personal needs, and other direct-care responsibilities when needed.

Our residents have different levels of independence and support needs. Some residents are ambulatory, while others may require mobility assistance. Individuals we serve may have autism, intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, blindness, behavioral or mental health conditions, physical disabilities, or other support needs.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport residents to and from scheduled programs, medical appointments, community activities, and other approved destinations.

  • Arrive on time and prepared for all scheduled transportation assignments.

  • Assist residents with safely entering and exiting vehicles.

  • Provide appropriate assistance to residents with mobility or physical limitations.

  • Ensure residents are safely and properly secured before operating the vehicle.

  • Follow all traffic laws, company transportation procedures, and safety requirements.

  • Follow assigned transportation schedules and routes.

  • Maintain appropriate supervision of residents during transportation and community activities.

  • Never leave a resident unattended when supervision is required.

  • Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of assigned company vehicles.

  • Promptly report vehicle concerns, accidents, incidents, delays, or safety issues to management.

  • Complete required transportation logs, mileage records, resident documentation, and incident reports accurately and on time.

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living and other DSP responsibilities when assigned.

  • Follow each resident's individual care plan, behavioral supports, dietary requirements, safety instructions, and other identified needs.

  • Communicate professionally with residents, coworkers, supervisors, healthcare providers, and community partners.

  • Follow direction from the Resident Manager, Healthcare Coordinators, Lead DSPs, and other authorized members of the care team.

Attendance & Reliability

Dependability and punctuality are essential requirements of this position.

Our residents depend on scheduled transportation to attend programs, appointments, and activities. A late or missed transportation shift can directly affect resident care and scheduled services.

Employees are expected to:

  • Report on time and ready to work for every scheduled transportation assignment.

  • Consistently work both portions of the split-shift schedule.

  • Follow established attendance and call-out procedures.

  • Immediately communicate unexpected delays or transportation issues.

  • Maintain reliable transportation to and from the assigned work location.

  • Must be able to safely assist residents with mobility needs when entering and exiting vehicles.

  • Must be able to follow written transportation schedules, resident care plans, safety instructions, and supervisor direction.

  • Must demonstrate patience, good judgment, professionalism, dependability, and respect when interacting with residents.
