Summary of Position: The Lead Classroom Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, engaging, and Christ-centered classroom for children from infancy through pre-K. Based on the assigned classroom, this individual leads daily classroom operations and provides developmentally appropriate care and learning experiences that support each child’s physical, cognitive, language, emotional, social, and spiritual growth. The Lead Teacher also guides classroom assistants and aides, maintains compliance with childcare licensing requirements, and builds strong partnerships with families. Classroom assignments may change based on enrollment, staffing, qualifications, and the needs of the Academy.

Must meet NC DCDEE Lead Teacher qualifications (or be willing to obtain)
Previous experience working with children in a licensed childcare setting is required
Understand child development, developmentally appropriate practices, positive guidance, and childcare health and safety.
Communicate effectively and professionally with children, families, coworkers, and Academy leadership.
Dependable, organized, and able to lead with both structure and warmth
Capable of maintaining active supervision in a fast-paced environment
Essential Responsibilities
Serve as the primary teacher and leader of the assigned classroom.
Create a safe, and nurturing environment that meets each child’s individual and developmental needs.
Plan and implement age-appropriate learning experiences that support children’s physical, cognitive, language, emotional, social, and spiritual development.
Incorporate biblical truth and the Gospel naturally through stories, songs, prayer, conversations, and daily interactions.
Establish consistent classroom schedules, routines, expectations, and transitions.
Engage children through reading, music, movement, sensory activities, creative play, outdoor play, and hands-on learning.
Use positive, developmentally appropriate guidance to promote emotional regulation, independence, problem-solving, and healthy social interactions.
Provide age-appropriate personal care, including feeding, diapering, toileting, rest, and hygiene routines, as applicable to the assigned classroom.
Maintain active supervision and required teacher-to-child ratios at all times.
Lead and support classroom assistants and aides through clear communication, modeling, coaching, and appropriate delegation.
Observe and document children’s development, progress, and needs.
Build strong partnerships with families and communicate regularly.
Maintain a clean, organized, sanitary, and developmentally appropriate classroom.
Maintain accurate classroom records, including attendance, meals, bottles, diapering or toileting, sleep, medication, and accident or incident documentation, as applicable.
Follow all Academy policies, health and safety procedures, and North Carolina childcare licensing requirements.
Promptly communicate developmental, behavioral, family, staffing, licensing, or safety concerns to Academy leadership.
Participate in staff meetings, required training, professional development as assigned
Maintain dependable attendance and assist in other classrooms when needed and qualified.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Academy Administrative Team.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds, including children and classroom equipment.
Ability to sit on the floor, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move actively throughout the day.
Ability to supervise children indoors and outdoors and respond quickly to their needs.
Ability to perform the essential responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
