The Sr. Director, Trade Policy advances U.S. dairy trade policy priorities in coordination with NMPF's industry partners, with particular focus on market access across Latin America. This role develops and recommends strategies to address trade policy objectives, monitors global developments affecting dairy trade, and works to resolve regulatory and other barriers that threaten U.S. dairy exports. The Sr. Director cultivates relationships with government officials, foreign counterparts, and industry stakeholders whose support is essential to achieving these goals. A significant portion of the work involves producing high-quality written materials, including briefing documents, policy papers, talking points, and presentations, as well as representing NMPF's trade policy positions before external audiences. The role also organizes events and meetings that support export growth and collaborates closely with internal teams to ensure a coordinated approach to advocacy. 

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the successful execution of NMPF’s partnership with the U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) on dairy trade policy.
  • Cultivate relationships with other relevant stakeholders key to advancing NMPF and key partners’ trade policy goals, particularly industry partnerships across Latin America.
  • Develop strategies to recommend for addressing various trade policy objectives.
  • Monitor dairy trade policy and global affairs impacting dairy trade policy.
  • Address non-tariff trade barriers impacting or threatening to negatively impact US dairy exports.
  • Present NMPF & key partners’ trade policy efforts to various external audiences.
  • Research, create, and edit briefing documents, papers, reports, talking points, presentations, slides, speeches, and other materials to advance policy goals.
  • Organize events and meetings to advance U.S. dairy export growth
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to trade policy advocacy.
  • Perform other tasks as needed to contribute to the support of NMPF & key partners’ trade policy goals and members’ needs.

Education & Experience

  • Approximately 7 years of experience in food/agricultural trade policy or related field. 
  • Strong understanding of the agricultural trade policy landscape. 
  • Preference for event organization experience.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in international relations, economics, public policy or a related field preferred.  

Skills & Abilities

  • Fluency (oral and written at a professional level) in Spanish.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent writing and oral presentation skills 
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective strategies to address them. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. 
  • Versatility to manage multiple projects at the same time, ensuring each meet or exceeds quality standards 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) 
  • Proficient in use of trade databases 

Travel

  • Travel for industry-related events required (5 to 10%).

Salary Range

  • $100,000-$130,000
  • 7.5 hour work day
  • Hybrid position, 2 remote days per week
