Position Summary

The Assistant Equipment Manager is responsible for supporting the Equipment Manager in overseeing daily equipment maintenance and repair operations while supervising shop personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality work. This role provides leadership, training, and hands-on technical support to mechanics and shop staff, assisting with diagnosing and repairing a wide range of construction equipment, vehicles, and tools. The Assistant Equipment Manager ensures that all equipment is properly maintained in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, safety standards, and company policies. This position works closely with field personnel and internal teams to maintain equipment reliability, promote a clean and organized work environment, and represent Grayson Carter and Son in a professional and ethical manner.


Key Responsibilities

Daily Operations & Team Supervision:

  • Assist the Equipment Manager in managing shop personnel, including mechanics and other shop staff.
  • Provide training, guidance, and supervision to shop staff to ensure all tasks are completed safely, effectively, and efficiently.
  • Assist in diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues with various types of equipment (e.g., construction machinery, vehicles, tools, etc.).

Execution & Performance Management:

  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained, serviced, and repaired as per the manufacturer’s recommendations. 
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all safety and maintenance protocols.
  • Maintain a high level of quality work at all times 
  • Maintain good relationships with Technicians, Foreman, Superintendents, Inspectors, Developers, and other co-workers at all times 
  • Aid Coworkers to ensure that the site is clean and organized at the end of each shift.

Safety & Compliance: 

  • Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work tasks
  • Knowledge of OSHA Standards
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on all job sites as required

Communication & Reporting: 

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide staff.

Job Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in equipment maintenance and repair 
  • Proven expertise in managing a team and overseeing equipment repair and maintenance operations.
  • Must be physically able to stand, walk, sit, crouch, kneel, climb, and periodically lift 75 pounds 
  • Dependable transportation
  • Work weekends and overtime as needed 
  • Committed to attending work each day 
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Represent and promote Grayson Carter and Son in a professional and honest manner
