Position Summary
The Field Equipment Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Dogwood Site Contractors’ heavy construction equipment primarily at active job sites. This position helps minimize equipment downtime by responding promptly to service needs and completing repairs safely and efficiently in the field.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Travel to job sites to diagnose and repair heavy construction equipment, including excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, rollers, and other equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine issues.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine service as needed.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and make field repairs whenever possible to minimize downtime.
  • Determine when equipment can be repaired in the field versus when it should be transported for more extensive repairs.
  • Communicate repair status, equipment needs, and anticipated downtime to the Equipment Manager and/or Field Operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, maintenance performed, and equipment condition.
  • Maintain an organized service truck, tools, and company-issued equipment.
  • Identify potential equipment problems before they result in major repairs or extended downtime.
  • Follow all company safety policies and maintain a safe work area while performing repairs on active construction sites.
  • Coordinate with Superintendents and operators regarding equipment issues without unnecessarily disrupting job-site production.
  • Perform other equipment-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience repairing heavy construction or earthmoving equipment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and construction equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and independently complete field repairs.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to operate a service truck and safely transport tools and parts to job sites.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple equipment repair requests.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Physical Demands
This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and working in and around heavy equipment. The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, dust, and uneven terrain. The position may require working underneath equipment and in confined or awkward positions while completing repairs.

This is a field-based position and requires travel between Dogwood job sites. Work hours may vary depending on equipment breakdowns and operational needs.
