Overview

PowerPlan is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to help solve some of the most complex engineering challenges across the PowerPlan platform. In this role, you will partner with architects, engineering leaders, and product teams to build scalable, reliable solutions that support mission-critical financial operations for asset-intensive organizations.

As a Principal Engineer, you'll bring a systems-level perspective across application, data, and cloud engineering domains. You'll provide hands-on technical leadership, influence key engineering decisions, raise quality standards, and help teams navigate complexity while delivering solutions that scale with customer demand. Success in this role requires curiosity, sound judgment, and a commitment to leaving the platform stronger than you found it.

We're in the middle of one of the most significant transformations in our history. Decades of proven functionality are being reimagined on a modern SaaS foundation, while AI becomes central to how we build, deliver, and evolve our products. The next generation of the PowerPlan platform is being designed right now. Join us, and you'll have the opportunity to influence the technology, engineering practices, and capabilities that will shape it for years to come.

Responsibilities

Your Impact

  • Solve complex technical challenges across application, data, and cloud engineering domains.
  • Build scalable, reliable solutions that support mission-critical financial operations.
  • Champion reliability, performance, observability, and production readiness across critical systems.
  • Bring a systems-level perspective to technical decisions, helping teams navigate dependencies and tradeoffs.
  • Raise the bar for engineering quality through mentoring, code reviews, and technical leadership.
  • Identify risks early, reduce technical debt, and improve the scalability and maintainability of the platform.
  • Foster healthy technical debate and help teams make sound decisions that balance customer needs, delivery priorities, and long-term sustainability.

What Success Looks Like

You'll become a trusted technical leader who helps solve complex cross-platform challenges, influences key engineering decisions, and raises the bar for quality, reliability, and maintainability. Working closely with architects, engineering leaders, and cross-functional teams, you'll identify risks early, navigate technical tradeoffs, and help build technology that scales with our customers and our growth.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

  • Hands-on experience building data ingestion and transformation pipelines using Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Python, and modern data engineering practices.
  • A track record of improving reliability and observability in distributed systems through monitoring, diagnostics, data-quality controls, and resilient design.
  • The ability to reason across complex systems, repositories, and dependencies, with experience working across both application and data engineering domains.
  • Strong engineering judgment with a high bar for code quality, testing, performance, and production readiness.
  • Deep expertise in C# and ASP.NET Core, including API and service development in enterprise environments.
  • Experience with Azure services, cloud-native architectures, and modern authentication and authorization technologies.
  • Strong SQL and data modeling skills, with an appreciation for data accuracy, scalability, and maintainability.
  • A willingness to learn and apply complex financial and accounting concepts in a highly regulated environment.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Accounting Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Typically 10+ years of software engineering experience, including significant ownership of enterprise applications, data platforms, distributed systems, or cloud-based services.
