Job DetailsJob Location: Huston-Tillotson University - AUSTIN, TX 78702Salary Range: $17.00 - $18.50 HourlyPOSITION SUMMARY   The Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting a variety of menu items in accordance with established recipes, production schedules, and food safety standards. This position supports daily dining operations by ensuring food quality, proper sanitation, accurate food storage, and exceptional customer service. The Cook works collaboratively with management and kitchen staff to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient food service environment while assisting with inventory control, production documentation, training of new employees, and special events as needed. The position may require flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and catering assignments. TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES   Prepare and prep a variety of food items according to standardized recipes and production sheet guidelines. Measure, weigh, mix, chop, dice, and prepare ingredients. Operate kitchen equipment including ovens, stoves, slicers, fryers, combi ovens, grills, and mixers safely and efficiently. Cook food using various methods including baking, roasting, broiling, grilling, and steaming. Prepare hot and cold food items including meats, poultry, fish, vegetables, soups, sauces, and other menu offerings. Maintain proper food temperatures and ensure food is stored correctly. Ensure all food items are properly garnished, displayed, dated, wrapped, and stored according to established procedures. Adhere to food safety and sanitation policies and procedures. Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, utensils, and food preparation stations. Ensure food presentation and portion sizes meet quality standards. Provide information regarding menu items and accommodate special customer requests as appropriate. Maintain a positive and professional demeanor when interacting with guests. Assist in training and onboarding new employees. Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure efficient operations. Complete production sheets and assist with inventory control measures. Assist with station setup, replenishment, and breakdown. Rotate among food service areas as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.   Qualifications Experience on the job 3-5 years Education high school diploma and or culinary degree Safe -Serve Certificate Cooking for 300-400 guests per meal   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES   Knowledge of food preparation techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety practices. Ability to maintain food quality, presentation, and portion control standards. Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment. Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Ability to follow written recipes, production sheets, and inventory procedures. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special catering events.   SUPERVISION   This position reports to the Chef.   SALARY RANGE   $17.00-18.50 hourly   POSITION STATUS   This position is not a direct-hire position with Huston-Tillotson University and will be employed by Ala Carte Menu Services, Inc. Flexible time; in-person.   SETTING   Founded in 1875, Huston-Tillotson University is Austin's first institution of higher education.
