Litigation Paralegal, Foreclosure Defense
Melville, NY | Full-Time | In-Person | $65,000 – $85,000
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to support a foreclosure defense attorney. This is a hands-on role with real ownership of an active litigation caseload in a collaborative, low-bureaucracy environment.
The opportunity here is a distinctive one: substantive litigation work and direct attorney access from day one, without the layers and specialization of a large firm.
Responsibilities:
Pleadings and Motion Practice
- Draft, file, and manage pleadings, motions, and supporting papers
- Prepare and respond to discovery demands
- Assemble exhibits, affidavits, and affirmations for attorney review
Court Filings and Calendar
- Handle NYSCEF e-filing and court submissions across New York State courts
- Maintain case calendars and track statutory and court-ordered deadlines
- Monitor docket activity and calendar appearances, conferences, and returnable dates
Case Management
- Manage assigned matters from intake through resolution
- Maintain organized case files and chronologies
- Track outstanding items and follow up on open issues across an active caseload
Client and Third-Party Communication
- Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for clients
- Coordinate with opposing counsel, court personnel, and referees
- Provide direct support to the supervising attorney
Qualifications:
Required:
- Prior litigation paralegal experience
- Working knowledge of New York civil procedure, CPLR filing requirements, and deadline management
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage an active litigation caseload
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic filing systems
Preferred:
- Foreclosure defense, real estate litigation, or a related practice area
- Familiarity with NYSCEF and Supreme Court foreclosure practice, including CPLR 3408 settlement conferences
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent formal training
- Case management software experience
What We Offer:
- Substantive litigation responsibility and direct attorney mentorship
- A collaborative, small law office environment where your work is visible and your judgment is trusted
- Meaningful ownership of your caseload rather than a narrow slice of it
This is a hands-on role for someone who is organized, dependable, and comfortable running with an active docket.
