Position Summary 

The Non-Hazmat CDL-A Driver supports RBW Logistics' operations by safely and reliably transporting freight through port drayage, dry van hauling, and local and regional transfers. The ideal candidate brings hands-on port operations experience and maintains strict compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations. 

Key Responsibilities 

Driving & Route Operations 

  • Safely operates a CDL-A truck to perform port drayage, dry van deliveries, and local and regional freight transfers. 

  • Conducts thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections on all assigned equipment before every trip. 

  • Follows all applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations and ensures timely, damage-free deliveries. 

Documentation & Communication 

  • Maintains accurate Electronic Logging Device (ELD) logs and other required documentation for every trip. 

  • Submits daily paperwork in the office and enters completed loads into the Drive Axle app for billing, using daily load numbers provided by dispatch. 

  • Communicates proactively with dispatch and operations throughout the day to support on-time, accurate deliveries. 

Schedule & Reporting 

  • Works Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM–6:00 PM, with weekends as needed based on port operations; observes paid holidays aligned with the port schedule. 

  • Reports to a Direct Manager (to be assigned) and receives daily dispatch instructions from RBW Logistics Dispatch, with safety oversight provided by the Manager.

What You'll Bring and Need to Succeed 

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities) 

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) in good standing. 

  • Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations, including hours of service, inspection, and documentation requirements; see Driving & Transportation Requirements below. 

  • Clean driving record and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) meeting FMCSA requirements, with the ability to successfully pass a DOT drug test and complete required background screening. 

  • Ability to read, follow, and retain instructions, with proficient math skills and problem-solving abilities. 

  • Experience loading and unloading trailers, with the ability to safely drive, dock, and park tractor-trailers up to 53' in length, including in tight or restricted spaces. 

  • Physically able to constantly enter and exit the tractor cab and unwind trailer landing gear multiple times per shift. 

  • Strong team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively with dispatch, operations, and other team members to support timely, accurate deliveries. 

  • Technology proficient, with the ability to use a Transportation Management System (TMS), Electronic Logging Device (ELD), and mobile load-management applications (e.g., Drive Axle) to fulfill job responsibilities. 

  • TWIC card preferred, or ability to obtain one, to support port operations. 

Required Years of Experience: 

1–2 years of commercial driving experience; drayage experience preferred. 

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities) 

  • Prior port and drayage experience. 

  • Prior experience with a Transportation Management System (TMS) in a 3PL or drayage environment. 

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations 

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) (required). 

  • Current DOT medical certification (DOT physical) (required). 

  • TWIC card (preferred, or ability to obtain one).

This role requires the ability to safely operate a commercial vehicle, perform vehicle inspections, and work in varying weather and environmental conditions, with or without reasonable accommodation. 

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a commercial vehicle. 

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally. 

  • Ability to climb, bend, crouch, and reach to perform inspections and job duties. 

  • Ability to work in varying weather and environmental conditions. 

  • Adequate vision and hearing to safely operate equipment and vehicles.

Driving & Transportation Requirements 

Safely and reliably operating a commercial vehicle is an essential function of this role. 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age, the federal minimum for operating a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce. 

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A), and hold only one CDL issued by the driver's state of residence, in accordance with 49 CFR Part 383. 

  • Must hold a current DOT medical certification (DOT physical) at all times. 

  • Must comply with all applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations, including those governing safe vehicle operation, inspections, hours of service, and documentation. 

  • Must consent to and pass a query of the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse, in accordance with 49 CFR Part 382, and participate in the Company's DOT drug and alcohol testing program (pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and return-to-duty/follow-up testing, as applicable). 

  • Must complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintain accurate Electronic Logging Device (ELD) records. 

  • Must maintain a driving record and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) meeting FMCSA, Company, and insurance carrier standards, and successfully complete an MVR check as required by the Company. 

  • Must promptly notify the Company of any change that could affect eligibility to operate a commercial vehicle, including loss or suspension of driving privileges. 

  • Ability to safely operate a CDL-A truck for local and regional routes, including port drayage, dry van, and transfer operations, in varying weather and environmental conditions.
