Job Summary

As a member of our Trail Crew/Ski Patrol team, you’ll help provide a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable mountain experience for all guests. This role combines trail maintenance, guest service, and mountain safety, while serving as a visible mountain host throughout the resort. Responsibilities include assisting guests, identifying and addressing hazards, maintaining trails, and supporting mountain safety operations. Employees may also have opportunities to develop first aid, avalanche mitigation, and other Ski Patrol skills based on interest and qualifications. This position offers an excellent pathway for growth within the Ski Patrol department.

Skiing to perform opening and closing procedures on the mountain daily

Maintain safe and easy access with the base patrol and ski patrol duty stations
Become proficient with ropes and rope rescue skills
Maintain clean, safe, and professional workstations
Training records kept up and turned into the Ski Patrol Director when completed
Interest in a obtaining a CPR/First Aid card (however not required)
Communicate problems to superiors, while showing initiative in handling routine matters
Shovel snow, sometimes deep, heavy wet snow weighing more than 50 pounds per shovel full

Skills and Competencies

Gain knowledge on how to maintain all aspects of the mountain boundaries, signage, tower pads and related tasks to opening and closing of the mountain on a daily basis.
Develop ability to deliver sleds for patient care/rescue
Learn about hill safety and risk management and how they both apply to safe operating procedures on the hill and premise.
Develop skills of avalanche beacon use, partner/group rescue, weather forecasting-related to ski area daily operations and avalanche mitigation practices and becoming an avalanche mitigation worker with the Ski Patrol (requires current CPR & Basic 1st aid training card).
Participate and become proficient in rope rescue skills related to low/high angle rescues including chair lift evacuations techniques.

Work Schedules

Weather, snow conditions and the number of guests play a large role in the work scheduling of Bear Valley employees.

When conditions are normal, you may be expected to work 40 up to 48 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. During busy periods – especially the holiday periods in December and the months of January and February – you may be expected to work six (6) days a week.

You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time. Keep in mind that you will often be required to drive on hilly, snow packed, and icy road.

Working Conditions

At any time during the ski season, Bear Valley employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.

Uniforms

A professional appearance at Bear Valley is required. Please wear your name tag and uniform at all times during your scheduled shift. We will provide most of the uniform for you to do your job. This uniform is for work hours ONLY, no exceptions.

You will be required to provide some items as part of your job.

The quality, color, and style of the items must be approved by your manager prior to being worn to work. All hats worn must have the Bear Valley logo while on shift.

The skiing/riding employee represents a model for safe skiing for both the guest and fellow employees. You are required to be aware of all safe skiing procedures, trail closures, and out-of-bounds policies of the mountain.
