Minimum Starting Hourly Rate: $16.95/hr Maximum Starting Hourly Rate - Dependent on Qualifications Benefits Health Dental Vision Life Insurance Generous Paid Time Off - 7.69 hrs per pay period 10 Observed Company Paid Holidays 8 Hours Annual Volunteer Time Off Retirement Plan w/ 6% Employer Contribution Employee Assistance Program GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Direct Support Professional 3 performs complex (journey-level) habilitation care work with individuals who have developmental disabilities, involving implementing treatment programs and performing therapeutic or developmental activities. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.  This position provides direct care, supervision, and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) receiving Crisis Respite services. The DSP assists individuals experiencing behavioral, emotional, or environmental crises by implementing established support strategies in a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment. Working under the direction of the Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) and other clinical staff, the DSP follows approved Behavior Support Plans/Therapeutic Support Plans and Crisis Prevention and Intervention procedures to promote safety, stability, and successful transition back to the individual's home or community setting. This position will provide services in the Belton IDD and Wales (Killeen) IDD offices. Occasionally respite may be provided in an individual’s home. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Direct Care and Supervision Provide direct supervision and support to individuals receiving Crisis Respite services. Ensure the health, safety, dignity, and welfare of each individual. Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, eating, and personal hygiene, as needed. Encourage independence by assisting individuals to perform tasks to the greatest extent possible. Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment. Behavior Support/Therapeutic Plan Implementation Working under the direction of the LBA the DSP shall: Implement Behavior Support or Therapeutic Support Plans as written to the individual receiving services. Utilize approved positive behavior support strategies. Reinforce replacement behaviors and skill development identified in the Behavior Support or Therapeutic Plan. Utilize approved de-escalation techniques during behavioral escalation. Observe participant behaviors and document objectively regarding implementation of the plan. Promptly report changes in behavior or concerns to supervisory staff. Follow all crisis intervention procedures established by CCS. Crisis Prevention and Intervention Assist in maintaining a calm and therapeutic environment. Recognize early signs of behavioral escalation. Implement approved crisis intervention techniques as trained. Maintain participant and staff safety during behavioral incidents. Notify supervisory staff of significant behavioral events. Complete required incident documentation. Documentation Complete required documentation accurately, objectively, and timely. Document services provided, behavioral observations, interventions, and incidents. Maintain confidentiality of all participant information. Utilize the electronic health record (EHR) in accordance with agency policy. Team Collaboration Work collaboratively with the LBA, Registered Therapy Assistant, Crisis Intervention staff, and other interdisciplinary team members. Participate in client reviews and staff meetings. Communicate significant changes in participant condition or behavior. Follow supervisory direction regarding implementation of services. Health and Safety Observe and report changes in physical or behavioral condition. Assist with medication support or delegated nursing tasks, when authorized and trained. Follow infection prevention and control procedures. Participate in emergency drills and emergency response activities. Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment. Transportation Safely transport individuals to approved activities or appointments. Operate agency vehicles in accordance with agency policy and state law. Ensure all occupants utilize seat belts or other required restraints Scope of Responsibility The DSP functions within clearly established policies, procedures, and Behavior Support/Therapeutic Support Plans. The position allows for moderate use of independent judgment in; however is expected to: Follow written plans and supervisory direction. Implement approved interventions consistently. Recognize situations requiring supervisory assistance. Report concerns promptly. The DSP is not expected to independently assess behavioral needs, modify treatment approaches, or make clinical decisions regarding behavioral interventions. Experience/Education/Licensing/Certification High school diploma or GED Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism, and individuals with behavioral challenges is preferred.  Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Central Counties Services incorporates principles of trauma-informed care, which includes cultural sensitivity, in all areas of service delivery. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies and the general public using tact, courtesy and good judgment. Additional Requirements Must have and maintain a valid drivers’ license with an acceptable driving record. Regular attendance and reliability is critical to business operations. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires the ability to: Lift, transfer, push, or pull up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Perform repetitive tasks such as typing, filing, and data entry. Interact frequently with consumers, staff, and the public in a professional and customer focused manner. Respond appropriately to challenging or unpredictable situations, including safely de-escalating and managing interactions with individuals who may exhibit verbally or physically escalated behavior, in accordance with training and Center policies. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position safely and effectively, including maintaining professionalism, sound judgment, appropriate interpersonal interactions, concentration, and the ability to respond appropriately in stressful or crisis situations, with or without reasonable accommodation.
