POSITION SPECIFICSā
The Penn State School of Theatre seeks a creative, strategic, and collaborativeĀ Assistant Director of Marketing, Communications, and EngagementĀ to lead marketing, communications, audience engagement, and public relations efforts for one of the nation's premier university theatre programs.Ā
This position plays a vital role in advancing the School of Theatre's mission byĀ expanding audiences, elevating theĀ profileĀ of Penn State Centre Stage, andĀ strengthening relationships with community partners, alumni, and donors.Ā Ā
TheĀ Assistant DirectorĀ develops andĀ executesĀ marketing and communications strategies that promote productions,Ā support audience growth,Ā andĀ advanceĀ theĀ School'sĀ reputation and impact across the University and broader community.Ā
The position oversees brand management, digitalĀ media, publications, social media,Ā public relations,Ā special events, and communityĀ partnerships.Ā
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Ā
LeadĀ Marketing Strategy and Audience DevelopmentĀ
Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies aligned with the School of Theatre's strategic plan and University priorities.Ā
Create annual marketing plans for Penn State Centre Stage productions, recruitment initiatives,Ā andĀ special events.Ā
Analyze market trends, audience data, and campaign performance to inform strategic decision-making and improve marketing effectiveness.Ā
Develop innovative initiatives that strengthen audienceĀ growth, increase participation, andĀ expand communityĀ engagement.Ā
Ā
ManageĀ Communications and BrandĀ StrategyĀ
Curate andĀ maintainĀ a consistent visual identity and messaging strategy for the School of Theatre and Penn State Centre Stage.Ā
Lead the creation, writing, editing, and production of marketing and communications materials, including production campaigns, playbills, brochures, newsletters, advertising, press releases, promotional materials, and multimedia content.Ā Ā
Publish and editĀ The Callboard, the School of Theatre's alumni newsletter.Ā
Coordinate internal and external communications that advance the visibility and reputation of theĀ School.Ā
Ā
OverseeĀ Digital Media and Content Creation:Ā
Oversee and manage the Penn State Centre Stage websiteĀ as a key recruitment, marketing, and audience-engagement resource.Ā
Create and oversee compelling content across multiple platforms, including social media, email marketing, digital advertising, photography, videography, short-form video, and web content.Ā Ā
DevelopĀ visual storytelling that highlights productions, students, faculty, and staff.Ā
Monitor analyticsĀ and performance metrics to evaluate and strengthenĀ digital marketingĀ strategies.Ā
Ā
BuildĀ Community Engagement and Partnerships:Ā
Identify, develop, and cultivate strategic partnershipsĀ across the University and throughout the broader community.Ā Ā
Serve as the primary liaison to the Penn State Centre Stage Community Council.Ā
Foster relationships with community organizations, alumni, donors, andĀ arts andĀ culturalĀ institutions.Ā
Represent Penn State Centre Stage at University and community events.Ā
AssistĀ in the research, writing, editing, and coordination of grant proposals and funding opportunities.Ā
Ā
LeadĀ EventĀ MarketingĀ and Public RelationsĀ Efforts:Ā
Coordinate marketing and communications for School of Theatre and Penn State Centre StageĀ productions, recruitment activities, alumni programs, donor engagement initiatives, and community events.Ā Ā
Coordinate media relations, photography, and promotional efforts with internal and external partners.Ā
Maintain production photography archives and help ensureĀ theatreĀ technology is operational andĀ event-ready.Ā Ā
Develop public relations strategies that increase regional and national visibilityĀ for the School and Centre Stage.Ā
Partner with College of Arts and Architecture and University Marketing & Communications colleaguesĀ on strategic communications initiatives.Ā
Ā
ManageĀ Budgets,Ā Projects, and Operations:Ā Ā
Develop and manage marketing budgets for advertising, promotional materials, publications, andĀ special events.Ā
Monitor expenditures and reconcile departmental marketing budgets.Ā
Oversee production schedules and ensureĀ timelyĀ completion of marketing projects.Ā
Manage multiple priorities whileĀ maintainingĀ exceptional attention to detail.Ā
Important Note: Due to the production schedule of the School of Theatre, the Assistant Director will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Qualifications:Ā
Required Qualifications:Ā
Demonstrated experience in marketing, communications, or public relations.Ā
Effective written, editing, and verbal communication skills.Ā
Experience developing integrated marketing campaigns across print, digital, and social media.Ā
Experience with social media management, content creation, photography, and videography.Ā
EffectiveĀ project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Ā
Experience with website content management systems and digital marketing platforms.Ā
ProficiencyĀ with Adobe Creative Suite or comparable design software.Ā
OutstandingĀ analytical skills and experience evaluating marketing effectiveness through data and reporting.Ā
Ā
It is also preferred that candidates haveĀ one or more of the followingĀ qualifications:Ā Ā
Experience in higher education, performing arts, nonprofit arts organizations, or cultural institutions.Ā
Experience with audience development and performing arts marketing.Ā
Experience writing grants or supporting fundraising initiatives.Ā
Familiarity with email marketing platforms and marketing analytics.Ā
Experience planning public events and donor engagement activities.Ā

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree
3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $54,060.00 - $78,444.00.Ā
