The Opportunity:
West Liberty University is seeking applications for an Accounting Specialist. The Accounting Specialist will be responsible for posting and reconciling daily financial transactions, including deposits, interest income, ACH transactions, electronic account activity, and interdepartmental transfers. The position will also assist with grant billing and other accounting functions while providing responsive and professional customer service to students, parents, and other members of the campus community regarding student accounts. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities, identifying and resolving discrepancies, and learning and utilizing institutional systems, including Banner and OASIS.
Essential Functions of the position:
Accounting and Cash Management
- Post daily deposits accurately and in a timely manner to the appropriate accounts.
- Post interest income and other recurring financial transactions.
- Process and post ACH transactions and electronic account activity.
- Post and reconcile interdepartmental and institutional transfers in Oasis and Banner.
- Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate account
- Assist with account reconciliations and research discrepancies as needed.
- Maintain accurate supporting documentation for financial transactions.
- Assist with year-end accounting procedures.
- Assist with the preparation of financial reports and schedules as
- Follow established internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Assist with audit requests and provide supporting documentation when needed.
Student Accounts and Cash Receipting
- Answer telephone calls, emails, and in-person inquiries regarding student accounts, charges, payments, balances, and related financial matters.
- Provide accurate, professional, and courteous customer service to students, parents, faculty, staff, and other constituents.
- Receive and process student payments in accordance with institutional policies and established cash-handling procedures.
- Assist students with understanding their account balances and payment obligations while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
- Assist students with establishing and maintaining payment plans.
- Research and resolve student account discrepancies in coordination with appropriate Business Office and campus personnel.
- Maintain accurate records of payments, adjustments, and other student account activity.
- Refer complex or sensitive student account matters to the appropriate supervisor or department.
Grant Billing and Other Business Office Support
- Assistwith grant billing and related accounts receivable activities.
- Gather, organize, and verify supporting documentation for grant invoices and billings.
- Assist with tracking grant-related receivables and researching outstanding balances.
- Communicate with internal departments as necessary to obtain information required for accurate
- Provide cross-functional support to other Business Office operations as assigned.
- Assist with special projects and other accounting duties as assigned
Education & Experience Requirements:
- REQUIRED a bachelor's degree in accounting of closely related field.
- REQUIRED at least 2 years of relevant accounting, bookkeeping, accounts receivable, cash management or related experience.
- PREFFERED 3 years or more of progressively accounting experience.
Skills/Abilities:

Ability to identify, research, and resolve accounting discrepancies.
Ability to interpret financial information and follow established accounting procedures.
Ability to learn and effectively use Banner, Oasis, and other institutional software systems.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to individuals who may not have an accounting background.
Professional demeanor and commitment to providing excellent service.- Ability to establishand maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, vendors, and other constituents.
