About Data Compass

Data Compass is GEICO’s enterprise data discovery, metadata, and self-service analytics platform. It helps employees find trusted data assets, understand business meaning, evaluate quality and governance signals, and use AI-enabled experiences with confidence.

Metadata Intelligence is the product capability that makes enterprise data understandable, searchable, governed, and AI-ready. It combines the Data Catalog, metadata supply chain, business glossary, enterprise search, steward workflows, and IntentIQ usage intelligence into one coherent platform capability.

IntentIQ is GEICO’s usage-intelligence layer for translating real analytical behavior — including query history, BI logic, metric usage, and recurring business questions — into reusable context that improves discovery, trust, and AI retrieval quality.

Role Summary

The Senior Product Manager — Metadata Intelligence will own the product strategy, roadmap, and execution for GEICO’s metadata platform and IntentIQ. This role is responsible for ensuring that enterprise metadata is complete, trusted, searchable, and usable by both employees and AI-powered experiences.

You will define how GEICO captures what data means, where it lives, who owns it, how it is used, and how it should be ranked or retrieved in business and AI workflows. You will partner across product, engineering, governance, analytics, AI/ML, and domain steward teams to turn metadata into a strategic enterprise asset.

This is a high-impact platform product role at the intersection of data catalog, metadata management, enterprise search, governance, usage analytics, and AI retrieval. The ideal candidate combines strong product judgment, technical depth, stakeholder leadership, and a clear bias toward measurable adoption and business value.

Key mandate: Build the metadata intelligence foundation that enables employees to find trusted data faster, helps stewards improve metadata quality at scale, and gives Compass AI the context required to answer business questions accurately.

What You'll Own

Data Catalog

  • Own the product strategy and roadmap for GEICO’s enterprise Data Catalog within Data Compass
  • Define how employees discover, browse, filter, and understand trusted data assets across enterprise business domains
  • Improve the catalog experience so users can quickly see what a data asset means, who owns it, how it should be used, and whether it is trusted
  • Partner with engineering, governance, and domain teams to make more high-value data assets available and useful in the catalog
  • Use adoption, search, and user feedback insights to continuously improve the Data Catalog experience

Metadata Enrichment

  • Define the product strategy for how metadata is captured, organized, improved, and used across GEICO
  • Establish clear metadata standards so users can consistently understand what data means, where it comes from, who owns it, and how it should be used
  • Improve enterprise search so employees can find relevant data assets using common business language, not just exact system names or technical terms
  • Own the business glossary experience so key terms, synonyms, and metric definitions are clear, consistent, and easy to find
  • Define simple tools and workflows that help data stewards create, update, and maintain high-quality metadata
  • Drive programs that improve metadata completeness, accountability, and quality across priority business domains

IntentIQ (Usage Intelligence)

  • Own the product strategy and roadmap for IntentIQ, GEICO’s capability for turning real data usage patterns into reusable business context
  • Define how common business questions, trusted metrics, dashboard logic, and frequently used data assets are captured, organized, and made searchable in Data Compass
  • Partner with analytics, governance, engineering, and business teams to identify which data usage patterns should become trusted enterprise knowledge
  • Establish quality standards and review workflows so only reliable, governed, and reusable analytical knowledge is published for broader use
  • Connect official business metric definitions to the reports, dashboards, and data assets that support them
  • Use IntentIQ insights to improve data discovery, reduce duplicate analysis, and help employees find trusted answers faster
  • Ensure IntentIQ provides Compass AI with reliable business context so AI-generated answers are more accurate and useful

Success in this role requires leading through influence: the Senior Product Manager will align multiple engineering partners, domain stewards, governance stakeholders, AI/ML teams, and business users around a single metadata intelligence roadmap.

Responsibilities

  • Set the product vision, roadmap, and success measures for Metadata Intelligence, including the Data Catalog, metadata platform, enterprise search, business glossary, steward workflows, and IntentIQ
  • Prioritize work across discovery, metadata quality, search relevance, stewardship, and usage intelligence based on user needs, business value, and platform readiness
  • Partner with engineering, analytics, governance, and AI teams to define clear product requirements that improve data discovery, trust, and AI-powered answer quality
  • Write clear product requirements, success metrics, and acceptance criteria for Data Catalog, metadata, search, steward workflow, and IntentIQ capabilities
  • Lead IntentIQ from early concept to production by defining target users, priority use cases, quality standards, launch criteria, and adoption goals
  • Work closely with data stewards, data owners and data product managers to improve metadata completeness, asset quality, and adoption across priority enterprise domains
  • Partner with the Compass AI Product Manager to define the trusted knowledge base and quality measures Compass AI needs to deliver accurate, relevant answers
  • Partner with product and governance stakeholders to align metadata standards, certification requirements, access controls, and classification needs
  • Conduct regular user research and steward engagement to understand pain points, validate priorities, and drive continuous product improvement
  • Track and communicate progress through outcome-oriented metrics such as catalog adoption, search success, metadata quality, steward engagement, IntentIQ usage, and reuse of trusted assets

Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years of product management experience
  • Demonstrated experience with metadata management, data catalogs, business glossaries, or enterprise search — not just consumer search
  • Track record of driving adoption with internal platform users — not just shipping features
  • Experience defining product requirements for AI/ML-enabled capabilities such as metadata enrichment and semantic search
  • Demonstrated ability to lead product execution across multiple engineering teams or organizational boundaries through influence, clear prioritization, and strong stakeholder alignment
  • Strong stakeholder management across multiple business domains with competing priorities
  • Evidence of consistent user research and stakeholder engagement
  • Comfort with data governance concepts: certification, ownership, stewardship, domain boundaries, sensitivity

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience with SQL query analysis, BI metadata, or usage analytics products
  • Experience with DataHub or comparable open-source / enterprise catalog platforms
  • Experience in insurance, financial services, or regulated industries
  • Background with usage-intelligence or query-log products: SQL-to-natural-language, analytical pattern reuse, knowledge inventory
  • Knowledge of Power BI metadata (DAX, M) or semantic layer / metric registry products
