Job DetailsJob Location: 940 MONTCLAIR ROAD SUITE 200 - BIRMINGHAM, AL 35213Job Shift: Day Peer Specialist   Peer Specialists encourage and support individuals with successful management of their mental health recovery. The residential on-site home peer will work closely with their peer supervisor and do one on one sessions with individual matches and also facilitate weekly support groups. PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: The Peer Specialist provides intensive support through a personalized balance of social, recreational, skill teaching and linkage development services for individual match relationships. Initiation of dialogue with matches about skills and supports during individual meetings once per week. Establishment of linkages that result in the matchs active use of resources in the community. Peer Specialist will actively facilitate mutual support meetings. Completion of meeting report forms and sign in sheets for each meeting. One on one meetings with supervisor once per month. Participation in mandatory bi-weekly Peer Bridger Team meetings and all scheduled training. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED required. Must create a recovery plan within 6 months of hire. Must attain Certification upon hire. Must demonstrate lived experience with Mental illness and be a role model to others pursuing recovery KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Have demonstrated experience in using the power and potential of your own recovery story as a tool to educate and inspire peers and non-peer staff Must be a good role model and be in active recovery for their own mental illness. Have the ability to convey a message of hope and recovery for people with psychiatric disabilities. Have demonstrated experience with and knowledge of the Alabama State public mental health system Have demonstrated knowledge of advocacy, self-help and empowerment programs for recipients of mental health services Have the ability to complete basic documentation requirements regarding work activities Qualifications
