Mechanical Foreman

Formed through the combined expertise of Anderson Mechanical Services and Inspiration Plumbing Company, VMG delivers industry-leading HVAC, plumbing, piping, and design-build solutions across the Mid-Atlantic.

 

We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Foreman to lead crews on commercial construction projects in the Blacksburg, Virginia area. This is an ideal opportunity for a hands-on leader who takes pride in quality workmanship, safe operations, and keeping projects moving efficiently.

 

What You'll Do

As a Mechanical Foreman, you'll oversee daily field activities while working closely with the Superintendent and project management team.

 

Lead Field Operations

  • Direct and supervise mechanical crews performing HVAC, plumbing, piping, and related installations
  • Assign daily tasks and communicate production expectations to field employees
  • Plan manpower, materials, tools, and equipment to maintain productivity
  • Coordinate work with other trades, subcontractors, and jobsite leadership
  • Identify field conflicts and communicate issues before they affect the schedule
  • Participate in short-term planning and daily coordination meetings

Champion Safety

  • Lead daily safety discussions and toolbox talks
  • Enforce OSHA requirements, VMG safety policies, and project-specific procedures
  • Inspect work areas, tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions or behaviors
  • Report incidents, near misses, and safety concerns promptly

Deliver Quality Work

  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and approved submittals
  • Ensure installations meet project requirements, applicable codes, and VMG quality standards
  • Monitor crew workmanship and verify completed work
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, and quality-control activities
  • Protect and properly maintain company tools, equipment, and materials

Support Project Performance

  • Track employee time, completed work, and daily production
  • Provide accurate information for daily reports and project documentation
  • Monitor material needs and coordinate deliveries to prevent delays
  • Support schedule milestones and communicate potential challenges to the Superintendent
  • Help minimize waste, rework, and unnecessary labor costs

Develop the Crew

  • Train and mentor mechanics, helpers, and apprentices
  • Set clear expectations and hold employees accountable
  • Encourage teamwork, professionalism, and open communication
  • Lead by example through reliability, craftsmanship, and a strong work ethic

What You Bring

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of commercial mechanical construction experience
  • Previous experience leading crews as a Foreman, Lead Mechanic, or similar field leader
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, hydronic piping, or mechanical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules
  • Experience planning daily work, coordinating manpower, and tracking productivity
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and jobsite safety practices
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of an active construction environment
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
