Overview

Under the direction of a licensed nurse, a certified nursing assistant performs daily personal care. Their primary responsibility is to ensure the residents’ quality of life by meeting their psychosocial needs in a safe and clean environment.  

Essential Functions

  • Provides personal hygiene (bath, shower, shampoo, shaving, dressing, elimination needs, facial hair clipping, nail clipping, and other personal care).
  • Performs safe and proper transfers and assists with ambulation by using assistive devices such as gait belts, walkers, wheelchairs, and mechanical lifts.
  • Accurately weighs residents on admission or as assigned in a timely fashion. Takes vital signs and responsibly reports observations and changes in resident condition.
  • Checks bedfast or incontinent residents at least every two hours to adjust position, toilet and provide incontinent care.
  • Provides for physical comfort and safe environment.   This includes consistently monitoring chair and bed alarms. Follows all safety and security policies and procedures; performs all tasks to assure resident and personal safety and the protection of co-workers and facility property.
  • Assures resident rooms are in a neat, orderly fashion while maintaining the resident’s right to privacy, i.e., neat closets, labeled personal items. Assures cleanliness of utility rooms, kitchens, staff rooms, shower rooms, linen rooms and other work areas.
  • Promptly and courteously answers residents’ call bells and other requests for assistance; follows residents’ plan of care regarding out-of-bed schedule and respects residents’ choices for going back to bed unless otherwise ordered by Physician or Charge Nurse.
  • Serves meal tray, assists feeding as appropriate, and provides nourishments to residents as assigned in a timely fashion
  • Completes documentation in Care Tracker System in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Communicates with nurse any changes in resident condition, particularly behaviors, bowel regime, and skin conditions.
  • Follows all policies and procedures, annual mandatory in-services, required meetings, and all other conditions of employment are consistently met.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Connecticut is required. 
  • Experience with MatrixCare or other electronic medical records is preferred.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in an understandable manner.


Hours

Per Diem:

1st: 7:00am-3:30pm

2nd: 3:00pm - 11:30pm

3rd: 11:00pm - 7:30am


Pay Rate

$20.00 - 24.00 per hour (based on years of experience) + shift differential (Weekday nights: $1.50 p/h, Weekend nights: $2.00 p/h)
