Job Summary

This is a one-year, fixed-term position with an anticipated duration of 12 months.

Bioinformatician: Computational Omics and Predictive Modeling
Responsible for developing, implementing, adapting, and validating computational prediction models using large-scale multi-omic, clinical, and phenotypic data. The role develops reproducible analytical workflows, optimizes code for high-performance computing, addresses cross-cohort differences in data processing and feature availability, and evaluates model performance in independent datasets across clinically relevant prediction horizons. Works collaboratively with investigators and external partners to ensure rigorous, reproducible, and interpretable model validation.

Essential Functions (Key Roles & Responsibilities)
• Independently conduct and support analysis of complex biological and multi-omic data using bioinformatics tools and software.
• Perform data processing, quality control, and database maintenance.
• Collaborate with research teams to understand their data analysis needs.
• Develop, implement, validate, and maintain reproducible data analysis pipelines
• Conduct advanced statistical and bioinformatic analyses and data visualization
• Lead or substantially contribute to interpretation and presentation of analytical results
• Working under very general supervision, the Bioinformatics Analyst will have demonstrated independent design and innovation in one or more of the following areas of specialization: algorithm development, data analysis, quality assurance/testing, pipeline software/computing development, user interface design & report development, web-based application development, or report development.
• Develop and validate multi-omic risk prediction models in a series of large cohorts.
• Design and evaluate statistical and machine-learning approaches for high-dimensional biological and clinical data
• Independently troubleshoot computational, analytical, and data-quality issues.
• Document methods, code, assumptions, and analytic decisions to ensure reproducibility and auditability
• Optimize workflows for large-scale and high-performance computing environments
• Conduct data analysis to uncover trends, patterns, and anomalies.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Support research security and compliance oversight by collaborating with the Institutional Review Board and other research governing bodies.
• Adhere to rigorous principles of reproducible research and data documentation.
• Substantially contribute to manuscripts, abstracts, reports, presentations, and grant-related analyses (e.g., scientific literature, reports, journal publications and presentations).
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's Degree Computational Biology or Related Field of Study required

Master's Degree Related Field of Study preferred

Experience

Computational Sciences Experience: 0-1 year.

Computational Sciences Experience: 3+ years preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in infrastructure, programming languages, and computational sciences.

  • Demonstrated ability working with open-source bioinformatics software.

  • Possess strong analytical skills, including critical thinking, data modeling, problem solving, and troubleshooting.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, to all levels of staff.

  • Excellent time management skills.
