Overview

You'll own Powertown's municipal and investor-owned utility partnerships end to end — from first conversation to operational deployment. That means building the relationships, structuring the programs, managing the pipeline, and ensuring that signed agreements turn into grid-integrated storage that performs. This is a director-level role, and as the function grows, you'll build the team around it.

The job is equal parts relationship management, commercial execution, and operational coordination.

What you'll own

  • Build and manage Powertown's portfolio of municipal and cooperative utility partnerships, from business development through program go-live and ongoing account management

  • Develop trusted relationships across utility functions — program management, operations, regulatory, and customer programs

  • Set and deliver against program performance targets: enrollment, installed capacity, dispatch readiness, and operational KPIs

  • Partner with utility stakeholders to deepen program scope, unlock adjacent opportunities, and advance long-term strategic alignment

  • Coordinate across internal teams and vendors to keep deployments on timeline and on spec

  • Identify improvements to program design, operational processes, and performance through data analysis and commercial judgment

  • Build the playbooks to scale this function across new markets

Must-have qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in utility partnerships, distributed energy programs, grid-side account management, or large-scale energy project execution

  • Deep familiarity with how municipal and cooperative utilities operate — their procurement structures, program design preferences, and stakeholder dynamics

  • Track record of managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives from agreement through execution in a high-growth or evolving market

  • Commercial and regulatory fluency — structure win-win deployments and sustain them

  • Builder mentality: you're energized by the opportunity to create a function, not inherit one

  • Strong communicator; you're credible with utility executives and equally effective coordinating internal teams

What success looks like

In year one: a growing portfolio of active municipal utility partnerships with clear capacity targets, a repeatable program launch playbook, and a pipeline that supports Powertown’s go-to-market.
