Job Summary:
This is a field-based sales position responsible for developing new business, expanding existing accounts, and building long-term relationships with mechanical contractors, HVAC service companies, facility owners, maintenance departments, technicians, and purchasing professionals.
The Outside Parts Sales Representative will identify replacement and repair opportunities, conduct customer and jobsite visits, identify equipment and parts requirements, prepare quotations, and close sales. This position will work closely with our inside parts sales/counter team, warehouse, purchasing, and manufacturer partners to ensure customers receive the right part, at the right price, and when they need it.Â
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Develop and grow parts sales within an assigned territory (SoCal SD, LA, OC) by regularly calling on mechanical contractors, service/repair companies, facility maintenance departments, and other commercial HVAC end users.
- The Outside Parts Sales Representative is accountable for achieving established sales and gross profit objectives through territory development, new business generation, account growth, and consistent follow-up on sales opportunities
- Identify replacement parts opportunities through jobsite visits, equipment surveys, and relationship-building with technicians and purchasing contacts.
- Prepare and present accurate price quotes; follow up to close sales and meet or exceed monthly/annual sales targets.
- Maintain and expand relationships with existing accounts while actively prospecting new customers.
- Partner with the inside parts sales/counter team to source parts, check stock and lead times, and process orders accurately.
- Cross-reference OEM part numbers and identify correct replacement parts across represented manufacturer lines.
- Communicate customer needs, competitive activity, and market trends back to the Parts Manager and manufacturer partners.
- Resolve customer issues (returns, warranty claims, order discrepancies) promptly and professionally.
- Maintain accurate records of sales activity, customer visits, and pipeline in CRM/ERP systems.
- Attend manufacturer training sessions and industry events to stay current on product lines and technology.
- Represent the company professionally in the field, including at trade shows, contractor events, and lunch-and-learns.
Requirements
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals.
- Strong relationship-building, negotiation, and closing skills.
- Comfortable reading equipment nameplates, parts manuals, and cross-reference guides.
- Proficient with CRM software, Microsoft Office, and standard order-entry/ERP systems.
- Self-motivated and able to manage a territory with minimal day-to-day supervision.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Â
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to plan daily customer calls and manage an active sales pipeline.Â
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with inside sales, warehouse, purchasing, and manufacturer partners.Â
- Ability to understand customer needs and recommend practical, cost-effective parts and product solutions.
Education and Experience:
- 2+ years of outside sales experience; commercial HVAC, mechanical, or industrial parts/equipment experience strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment and components (compressors, motors, controls, coils, valves, etc.) or strong aptitude to learn quickly.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's/bachelor's degree or technical certification a plus.
- Experience selling HVAC replacement parts, equipment, or related mechanical products in a B2B environment is highly preferred.Â
- Established relationships with commercial HVAC contractors, service companies, or facility maintenance professionals is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods, with the ability to periodically stand, walk, and change positions as needed.
- Must be able to use a computer, keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other standard office equipment on a regular basis.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic communication.
- Regular local travel throughout the assigned territory, including customer sites, jobsites, and mechanical rooms.
- Ability to lift and carry parts/samples up to approximately 40 lbs.
- Exposure to mechanical rooms, rooftops, and job sites in varying conditions; use of appropriate PPE as required.
- Extensive time spent driving; reliable personal or company vehicle required.
- Ability to safely navigate construction jobsites, warehouses, mechanical rooms, rooftops, and other commercial/industrial environments.Â
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access equipment areas when required during customer visits or equipment surveys.Â
- Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions as required by customer and jobsite visits.
