SCHEDULE

 

Schedule: Monday - Friday

Hours: Typically, between 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM, depending on business needs; willingness and ability to work overtime, as needed, is required.


On-Call & Weekend Work: Required to participate in a rotating on-call schedule. Weekend work is limited to assigned on-call responsibilities. Schedules may vary based on business needs and assigned location.



JOB SUMMARY


The Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, servicing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting residential HVAC systems. The position requires strong technical knowledge, a commitment to safety and quality, and excellent customer service.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The responsibilities outlined below represent the primary duties of this position. Responsibilities are performed in accordance with company procedures, applicable standards, and job requirements, with the level of supervision and support appropriate to the employee’s experience and level of training.

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain residential HVAC systems, including:
    • Gas and Electric furnaces
    • Heat pumps
    • Geothermal systems
    • Air conditioning systems
    • Air handlers
    • Water heaters
    • Related equipment
  • Use appropriate diagnostic tools, meters, and HVAC service equipment to identify system issues and determine necessary repairs.
  • Safely work with refrigerants, natural gas, propane, electrical systems, high-pressure nitrogen, and other materials and equipment.
  • Perform brazing and other service procedures using proper tools, equipment, and safety practices.
  • Communicate equipment conditions, recommended repairs, and service options clearly and professionally to customers while providing a high level of customer service.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation of work performed, parts used, equipment conditions, and recommended follow-up work.
  • Maintain assigned tools, equipment, vehicles, and company property in a clean, organized, and safe condition and follow all applicable safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Maintain required certifications and licenses and participate in ongoing technical and safety training, including opportunities to pursue applicable state Journeyman HVAC/R licensing.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.



BASIC REQUIREMENTS

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • CFC certification 
  • Valid driver’s license
  • State Journeyman license is a plus; McCrea supports employees in obtaining applicable Journeyman licensing.
  • Working knowledge of residential HVAC systems, service, repair, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to safely use basic hand tools, power tools, meters, and HVAC service equipment.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with customers and work effectively with team members.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS 


The physical requirements described below are representative of the physical abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crawl, reach, stretch, climb, and work in awkward positions. The position may require working in confined spaces, at elevated heights, and on ladders. The employee must be able to safely use common hand and power tools.


The employee must be able to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds and work in varying indoor and outdoor temperatures and weather conditions.



WORK ENVIRONMENT 

 

The work environment described below is representative of the conditions an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of the position. Employees are expected to follow all applicable safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.


Work is primarily performed in residential homes, including attics, crawl spaces, basements, garages, closets, mechanical rooms, and other limited-access areas.


Employees may be exposed to varying indoor and outdoor temperatures, weather conditions, dust, insulation, and other common residential materials. Work may occur around HVAC equipment, electrical systems, gas lines, tools, ladders, and other mechanical equipment, with occasional exposure to elevated noise levels.
