Position Summary

The Senior Development Manager is responsible for developing and overseeing projects that advance the company’s strategic objectives for operational sustainability and environmental liability management. This role applies technical, business, and regulatory expertise to manage and optimize projects tied to gas development, energy management, asset retirement obligations and related financial assurance mechanisms.  

Target Responsibilities

  • Manage existing joint ventures and third-party projects tied to gas development and energy management. Coordinate cross-functional teams (site engineering, operations, environmental, finance) and external partners. Oversee planning, contracting, budgeting, and field execution.
  • Assess the viability and feasibility of new technologies, partnerships and business opportunities that reduce environmental footprint, manage risk, and create value. Support due diligence, development, and execution of commercial agreements.
  • Conduct high-level financial modeling to size opportunities, evaluate trade-offs, and inform priorities considering technical, economic, and environmental aspects.
  • Provide technical oversite, review, and standardization of companywide asset retirement obligation assessment and planning. Proactively identify and prioritize opportunities for long term environmental liability reduction across all operations.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and budgeting efforts. Actively manage and address risks that could expand scope, increase cost, or extend duration of liabilities, while simultaneously identifying investments and actions to mitigate those risks.
  • Manage and optimize the company’s reclamation and water treatment trust funds, which serve as alternative financial assurance mechanisms and strategic tools for long term liability management.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field. MBA or advanced training preferred.
  • Ten or more years of relevant working experience, including mine operations, technical and financial disciplines.
  • Strong leadership skills and behaviors, and the ability to excel in multi-disciplinary settings.
  • Knowledge of emerging regulatory drivers and environmental markets, including alternative energy portfolio standards, tax credits, and other environmental attributes.
  • Experience developing estimates of environmental, reclamation, and water treatment liabilities and an understanding of regulations governing financial assurance mechanisms for mine closure.
  • Demonstrated project management experience leading all aspects of large scale (multi-million dollar) capital projects, from concept/evaluation through field execution.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating and supporting the technical, financial, and regulatory aspects of business transactions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience developing structured options and recommendations, and preparing decision-ready presentation materials for management.
  • The role is based in the corporate office, with flexibility to travel as needed.
