CNC Machinist – Afternoon or Night Shift

Swiss American Screw Products | Wayne County, MI | $20–$25/hr | Full-time, 4-day work week | AS9100D · ISO 9001:2015

Swiss American Screw Products has been making precision turned components since 1960. From our shop in southwestern Wayne County - minutes from Detroit Metro Airport - we run roughly twenty Swiss-style CNC machines, producing parts Ø20mm and smaller to tolerances as tight as ±.0002″ for the aerospace, medical, electronics, and tooling industries. We are AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certified.

We are hiring CNC machinists to join our off-shift production team. You will set up, run, and troubleshoot CNC equipment, hold tight tolerances, and inspect your own work. If you have solid CNC experience but have never touched a Swiss machine, that is fine - we will teach you. Swiss machining is a genuinely valuable skill, and there are not many shops in the area that can train you on it properly.

Afternoons or nights - four days a week. We are building out our off-shift team and are flexible on start time. Candidates who can work either an afternoon (4:00 PM) or night (approximately 9:00 PM) start are especially encouraged to apply. Either way, you work Monday through Thursday and have a three-day weekend every week.

What You'll Do

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC machines to produce parts to customer drawings.
  • Load and change tooling, make offset adjustments, and keep parts within print.
  • Inspect your own work using micrometers, calipers, gages, comparators, and other precision instruments.
  • Maintain production pace and part quality across a full shift with limited direct supervision.
  • Follow our AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 quality procedures and complete required documentation.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and keep your work area clean and organized.
  • Work safely and follow all company policies and safety procedures.

What You Need

  • Hands-on CNC machining experience - required. This is not an entry-level position.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings, and written work instructions.
  • Comfort with precision measuring tools and shop math.
  • Willingness to work an afternoon or night shift on a 4-day schedule.
  • Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic. On an off-shift, your team counts on you being there.

Nice to Have (Not Required)

  • Swiss-style CNC experience - a significant plus.
  • Experience on Citizen, Star, or KMX machines - these are what we run.
  • Experience machining stainless steel, aluminum, alloy and carbon steels, brass, copper, or titanium.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • CNC programming or G-code editing experience.
  • Experience in aerospace, medical, or other tight-tolerance work.

What You Bring

  • Detail-oriented and quality-focused - small parts, tight tolerances, no shortcuts.
  • Reliable and responsible.
  • Good problem-solving instincts and clear communication.
  • Willingness to learn. Swiss machining rewards patience and curiosity.

Schedule & Pay
  • $20–$25 per hour, depending on experience.
  • 4-day work week - Monday through Thursday, 10-hour shifts. Three-day weekend, every week.
  • Afternoon shift: 4:00 PM start.
  • Night shift: approximately 9:00 PM start. Let us know which start time works better for you when you apply.
