Swiss CNC Setup/Operator - 2nd or 3rd Shift Production Leader

Swiss American Screw Products | Wayne County, MI | $25–$34/hr | Full-time, 4-day work week | AS9100D · ISO 9001:2015

Swiss American Screw Products has been making precision turned components since 1960. From our shop in southwestern Wayne County - minutes from Detroit Metro Airport - we run roughly twenty Swiss-style CNC machines, producing parts Ø20mm and smaller to tolerances as tight as ±.0002″ for the aerospace, medical, electronics, and tooling industries. We are AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certified.

We are looking for a skilled Swiss CNC Setup/Operator to lead our second or third shift. You will run the floor - setting up and troubleshooting machines, keeping parts moving to schedule, and mentoring the operators on your shift. This is a hands-on leadership role in a small shop, which means your decisions carry real weight and your work is visible. If you know Swiss machining and want the chance to lead, we want to hear from you.

You pick the shift. We are adding one leader, and we are flexible on when that shift runs. Tell us which start time works better for you - 4:00 PM or 9:00 PM - and we will build the shift around the strongest candidates we find.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform setup, operation, and troubleshooting of Swiss CNC machines.
  • Lead and support your shift's production personnel, driving productivity and efficiency.
  • Motivate and guide team members to meet production, quality, and safety targets.
  • Ensure all employees follow company policies, safety regulations, and quality procedures.
  • Hold the shift to our AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 quality standards.
  • Use inspection tools and procedures to verify the precision and quality of manufactured parts.
  • Collaborate with management to improve processes and support production goals.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Swiss CNC machine setup and machining.
  • Strong understanding of Swiss tooling, machine setup, and CNC operations.
  • Experience on Citizen, Star, or KMX Swiss CNC machines is a strong advantage - these are what we run.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • CNC programming experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented production environment.

Technical Skills

  • Familiarity with AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Knowledge of inspection methods and precision measurement tools; comfortable working to ±.0002″.
  • Experience machining stainless steel, aluminum, alloy and carbon steels, brass, copper, and titanium. We also run precious metals and plastics.

What You Bring

  • Detail-oriented and quality-focused.
  • Reliable and responsible.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Schedule & Pay

  • $25–$34 per hour, depending on experience.
  • 4-day work week - Monday through Thursday, 10-hour shifts. Three-day weekend, every week.
  • 2nd shift: 4:00 PM start.
  • 3rd shift: approximately 9:00 PM start.

We are filling one shift leader position and will run whichever of the two shifts attracts the strongest interest. Let us know your preference when you apply - it genuinely factors into our decision.

Benefits

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • 401(k) with company matching
  • Profit sharing
  • Paid time off
  • Life insurance
  • Parental leave

Why Swiss American?

  • A stable, family-founded shop - in business since 1960, with an average employee tenure of over 10 years.
  • Learn Swiss machining from people who have done it for decades. It is a skill that follows you for your whole career.
  • Some of the tightest-tolerance work in the region, for aerospace, medical, and electronics customers.
  • A small team where good work gets noticed - not one more badge number on a big floor.
  • A culture built on precision, independence, humility, and honesty.

Skills

AS9100 • ISO 9001 • Swiss machining • Citizen / Star / KMX • Manufacturing • Quality control • Shift management • Leadership • Attention to detail
