The welding lab assistant is responsible for supporting the setup, organization, and ongoing maintenance of the welding lab and ensuring that all safety protocols are followed consistently. This role includes helping students during lab sessions by assisting with equipment and tools, such as band saws, grinders, and welding machines. The assistant will oversee the safe operation of these machines across multiple welding processes and will contribute to maintaining a clean and organized lab environment.


Education & Experience Requirements

Education required:

  • Must be an enrolled JALC student, with a minimum of 6 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Must have a high school diploma
  • Must have a FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid office
  • Must be in the welding program

Education preferred: Second-year welding student

Experience required: Must hold an OSHA 10 certification; proficient in the operation of welding equipment across various processes; advanced welding skills; strong understanding of safety protocols

Experience preferred: OSHA 30 certification


Essential Functions & Position Duties

  • Set up lab equipment
  • Maintain safety standards
  • Offer support to students during lab activities


Non-Essential Functions of the Position

Other duties as assigned. Duties must be performed on the John A. Logan College campus or designated location.
