Lasata Care Center | Ozaukee County

Lasata Care Center is looking for a Cook to join our Culinary Services team! In this role, you’ll help provide delicious, nutritious, and appealing meals for our residents while ensuring meals are prepared safely and according to individual dietary needs.

Position Details

  • Full-Time: 40 hours per week
  • Starting Pay: $20.95/hour and up, based on experience
  • Weekday Hours: 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Every Other Weekend: 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Schedule: Includes every other weekend and every other holiday rotation

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and cook a variety of foods, including meats, vegetables, starches, soups, salads, breakfast items, desserts, and other menu items.
  • Prepare regular, mechanically altered, and therapeutic diets according to menus, recipes, nutritional plans, diet orders, and resident preferences.
  • Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and food safety procedures.
  • Ensure meals are prepared in the correct portions and maintained at appropriate temperatures.
  • Help oversee food service line and resident meal tray setup.
  • Serve meals in an attractive and appetizing manner while providing excellent customer service to residents.
  • Ensure meals and beverages are served accurately according to diet orders and resident preferences.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen and food service environment.
  • Assist with food storage, labeling, dating, inventory, deliveries, and departmental records.
  • Monitor kitchen equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Help train and orient new Culinary Service employees as directed.
  • Supervise Culinary Service Assistants during assigned work hours.
  • Assist with special events and other culinary service needs.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Head Cook and/or Dietary Supervisor when needed.

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • High school diploma.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a cook or cook assistant in a healthcare, high-volume institutional, or senior living setting. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Ability to prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, dietary procedures, food values, and nutrition.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with residents, families, staff, vendors, visitors, and other members of the care team.
  • Leadership skills and willingness to supervise and work collaboratively with Culinary Service Assistants.

Physical & Work Environment

This is a fast-paced, hands-on position with very little downtime. The Cook works primarily indoors and may be exposed to hot and cold temperatures, steam, routine kitchen noise, and potential mechanical, chemical, infectious waste, and burn hazards.

The position requires prolonged standing and may require lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving equipment and supplies in excess of 50 pounds.
