About the Opportunity

Help keep the maps behind America's human spaceflight program accurate down to the last utility line. Genex Systems is looking for a GIS Field Survey and Mapping Technician to collect and maintain the facility and utility data that underpins operations across NASA's Johnson Space Center, the home of Mission Control and the training ground for the astronauts who fly to the International Space Station and, soon, back to the Moon.

About the Work

JSC's Houston campus spans roughly 1,620 acres and supports a workforce of more than 3,200 civil servants and 11,000-plus contractors, including the astronaut corps, Mission Control, and facilities like the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory used to train for spacewalks. Keeping a campus that large running safely depends on accurate, current records of what's underground and inside every building. In this role, you'll be one of the technicians on the ground responsible for that accuracy, walking the site to verify and update facility and utility data that other teams rely on every day.

What You'll Do

  • Collect field survey data using standard field survey equipment and recommend improvements to data collection methods.
  • Support dig permitting on site, including scheduling site visits, utility marking, and location collecting while digging is occurring.
  • Process and manage survey data using Trimble and ESRI products according to project needs.
  • Field verify Facility Housing Plans (FHPs) and perform quality control on collected data, correcting errors as you find them.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team on field data collection for larger projects across the JSC campus, sometimes with minimal supervision.
  • Use AutoCAD, ArcGIS, MS Office, and field and office equipment (including large format printers) to complete assignments.
  • Follow written and verbal direction from supervisors and represent Genex professionally while working onsite as a field technician.

What You'll Need (Required)

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Residence within reasonable daily driving distance of JSC in Houston, TX (this is a daily onsite role).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations for construction sites, and the ability to follow them consistently in the field.

Nice to Have (Preferred)

  • Associate's degree in surveying, environmental science, civil technology, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in geospatial field data collection and processing.

Compensation & Benefits

$50,000 - $55,000/ year, commensurate with education and experience

Genex Systems offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

• 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching
