Grant Accountant


Background: Cahaba Medical Care Foundation is a community health center providing medical, pharmacy, dental, and behavioral health services to diverse underserved communities in Jefferson, Bibb, Perry, Chilton, and Wilcox counties. We are a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home and Joint Commission accredited organization, committed to increasing integration and coordination of behavioral health and primary care. This is an exciting, fast paced practice with a strong mission and commitment to providing high quality care. 


Purpose: The Grant Accountant is responsible for the financial management and oversight of grant-funded programs. This position supports budgeting, expenditure tracking, financial reporting, compliance monitoring, and grant reconciliation activities to ensure adherence to federal, state, and organizational requirements.

The Grant Accountant works closely with finance, operations, and program leadership to maintain accurate grant financial records and support timely reporting and compliance activities.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and maintain grant budgets in collaboration with program leadership and finance staff.

  • Track grant expenditures and ensure spending aligns with approved grant budgets and funding requirements.

  • Monitor and reconcile grant-related financial activity and accounts.

  • Prepare monthly grant profit and loss statements and financial reports.

  • Complete required grant financial reporting through HRSA EHB, Payment Management System (PMS), and other sponsor reporting platforms.

  • Coordinate and track time-and-effort attestations and supporting documentation for grant-funded personnel.

  • Assist with grant drawdowns, invoicing, and reimbursement requests as applicable.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and organizational grant accounting requirements.

  • Support internal and external grant audits by preparing documentation and responding to requests.

  • Maintain organized grant financial files, records, and supporting documentation.

  • Collaborate with grant administrators and operational leaders to support accurate financial reporting and compliance activities.

  • Assist with financial forecasting and budget modification requests for grant-funded programs.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial management systems.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

  • Close attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and reporting requirements.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting or grant accounting experience preferred.

  • Experience with federally funded grants, HRSA funding, or nonprofit healthcare accounting strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of grant compliance and federal funding regulations preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.

Work Environment

Primarily office-based environment with occasional meetings and collaborative work sessions.
