Position Summary

The Asset Manager owns the end-to-end IT Asset Management (ITAM) process, ensuring all hardware, software, and licensing assets are tracked, accounted for, and managed throughout their lifecycle — from procurement through retirement/disposal. This role drives cost control, license compliance, and audit readiness, and partners with Configuration Management to keep asset and CI data aligned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and execute the IT Asset Management process across the full asset lifecycle (procurement, receipt, deployment, maintenance, refresh, retirement, disposal).
  • Maintain accurate and current asset inventory records (hardware, software, licenses, peripherals, mobile devices) in the ITAM/ITSM tool.
  • Track software license entitlements, usage, and compliance; identify and remediate over-deployment or under-utilization.
  • Coordinate hardware/software procurement requests, approvals, and receiving in line with budget and standards including supporting new capability and refresh requests routed through the IT Capability Request (ITCR) vetting process.
  • Manage asset tagging, check-in/check-out, and location/ownership tracking for all tracked assets, including full accountability and reporting for Government-Furnished Equipment (GFE) in accordance with Government property tracking requirements.
  • Conduct periodic physical audits and inventory reconciliations; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Partner with Configuration Management to ensure asset records and CMDB data remain aligned and accurate.
  • Manage asset disposal/decommissioning in compliance with data sanitization and environmental disposal policies, including adherence to NIST SP 800-88 media sanitization standards.
  • Support budget planning and forecasting by providing asset lifecycle, refresh cycle, and total cost of ownership data.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for software license audits and compliance reviews (e.g., vendor true-ups).
  • Generate and present asset management reports/KPIs (inventory accuracy, license compliance rate, asset utilization, warranty/EOL status) to leadership.
  • Maintain and continuously improve Asset Management policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures.
  • Manage relationships with hardware/software vendors and leasing providers as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience in IT Asset Management, Service Desk, or IT Service Management operations.
  • Must possess a Secret Clearance
  • Solid understanding of ITIL framework (ITIL Foundation certification required; Intermediate/Practitioner preferred).
  • Experience with ITAM/ITSM platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, BMC Remedy, Jira Service Management) and their Asset Management modules.
  • Strong knowledge of software license models and compliance requirements (e.g., Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle licensing).
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and reconciliation skills.
  • Experience with physical inventory audits and asset lifecycle tracking.
  • Excellent documentation and reporting skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Certified Asset Management Professional (CAMP) or IAITAM certification (CHAMP/CSAM).
  • ITIL 4 certification with IT Asset Management specialization.
  • Experience supporting federal government clients/contracts (including government property/GFE management).
  • Familiarity with discovery tools and their integration with asset/CMDB data.
