The Role

The Event Finance Manager will work across our Accounting, Partner Management and Event Operations teams to develop budgets for individual events, track expected revenue and expenses against plans leading up to the event and complete an accurate and timely financial accounting statement following the completion of the event.

The primary responsibilities of this role will include ownership of the accounting of several events across our partnership portfolio at any given time.  In this role you will work to make sure that the financial projections for an event are kept up to date, and you will coordinate communication across various departments to make sure that event-level information is current and distributed to those who have oversight of the events.

At the end of an event, you will generate a post-event profitability report for the accounting department as well as external reporting for event partners where there is a profitability sharing component.  In addition, you may be asked to provide financial analysis in support of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow projections and other ad-hoc requests.

This is a terrific opportunity to apply your accounting and finance knowledge in partnership with some of the leading sports and entertainment properties in the world as part of an engaged and motivated team.

The role will be based at our corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC and reports to our Director of Event Finance and Accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the finance and accounting lead in the preparation of budgets for a portfolio of large, global sporting events
  • Convert the initial event budget into a forecast that is proactively updated with the most current information, ensuring revenue and costs are tracked to the appropriate event code
  • Provide periodic updates to senior management by compiling, preparing, and distributing updated reports that analyze revenue and costs, estimating break-even points and comparing budget to actual results
  • Complete a final event settlement / profit and loss statement at the end of each event, as well as any related reports to be shared with partners and rights holders where there is a profit-sharing agreement in place
  • Assist in the month-end closing and year-end audit process by reconciling event-related general ledger accounts and reviewing related financial journal entries each month into the general ledger system for the events for which you have ownership
  • Contribute to an event database to ensure all information is accessible and accurate when requested for utilization in budgeting and forecasting future events/cash flow

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Accounting/Finance, or equivalent
  • 3 to 5 years of accounting/finance experience in a corporate or public accounting environment

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel (pivots, lookups, other advanced functions)
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the ability build positive working relationships with all levels within the organization while balancing conflicting priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with high standards for quality; ability to keep accurate and detailed records
  • Experience in the sports, entertainment and hospitality industries would be highly relevant for the role, but is not required
