SBU Driver Mechanic

The SBU Driver Mechanic performs vehicle mechanical work beginning with basic assembly and/or removal of parts, minor repairs such as replacing fuel systems, unit connections and other components.​

Duties increase with time and experience on the job. Most advanced work may include fabricating experimental parts and test fixtures and working from blueprints/drawings. Other responsibilities include driving test vehicles at various speeds on varying road conditions.​

Weekend overtime is required for this position.​

Basic Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 1 year of mechanic experience​
• Basic knowledge of mathematics, reading and writing​
• Organizational skills​
• Mechanical skills and knowledge of mechanical systems​
• Welding Experience​
• Troubleshooting skills​
• Ability to use and understand computerized diagnostic equipment​
• Automotive background​

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree​
• Apprenticeship or internship in automotive mechanics​
• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified​
• Specialty certifications​
