JOB SUMMARYÂ
S&C is a specialist in high voltage switching, protection, and control, providing products for the electric power industry since 1911. Underground Power Hardware – Development Engineering is responsible for the integration of power hardware subsystems in bringing new products to market. This position is for a team-oriented, experienced, team member with a background in Mechanical Engineering with interests in product design, simplification, and development. Tasks will range from providing subject matter expertise on Mechanical Engineering principles and leading investigations during design cycles to the conceptual development of subsystems and refinement of concepts to foundational subsystem technologies. In this position, you will report to the Manager – Product Engineering. Â

The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $116534 - $154413.38. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:Â
Lead power hardware subsystems product development as a technical lead with support of project management, often contributing to multi-discipline issues on major product developments with cross-organizational teams.Â
Solve design and manufacturing related problems through use of fundamental engineering calculations and theory.Â
Develop product design specifications and test plans. Coordinate and perform product testing with input from cross-functional teams. Â Â
Modify existing designs or develop new designs of components and subsystems, either alone or leading/collaborating with a team of cross-functional and cross-organizational engineers and designers. Â
Evaluate materials from standpoint of dielectric, environmental, and mechanical performance. Provide insights and recommendations to the design teams. Â
Participate in Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) events. Â
Research IEEE, IEC, and other applicable industry standards and apply to product development. Â
Conduct studies and make analysis, interpretations, and conclusions based on tests and research. Report out the results to senior leadership. Â
Write test reports and certifications for internal and external customers. Communicate results directly to internal and external customers. Â
Mentor engineers and designers both within the Development Engineering group and occasionally outside of the group. Â

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:Â Â
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering discipline. MS degree is a plus.Â
Strong knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles: Thermodynamics, Statics, Dynamics, Materials Science, and Mechanical Systems.Â
7-10 Years of experience in Mechanical Engineering. Expert Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.  Â
Experience with designing products subjected to underground environments.Â
Experience supporting major product development and knowledge of project management.Â
Fundamental knowledge of power engineering theory is preferred.Â
Prior experience with high voltage and high-power testing is preferred.Â
Experience with relevant IEEE and IEC industry standards is preferred. Â
Experience with CAD/CAM and FEA. Experience with SolidEdge and ANSYS/Maxwell preferred. Â
Experience with manufacturing processes, tolerance analysis, application of GD&T, and FMEAs. Â
Desire to work hands-on in a manufacturing environment.Â
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to build and grow professional relationships.Â
Very good interpersonal and organizational skills. Â
