Description

Casa Lending is one of the fastest-growing private money lending firms in the United States. Our mission is to help real estate investors profitably scale their business by offering a best-in-class suite of loan products and leveraging top talent. As a Underwriter, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient management of underwriting and closing pipelines while minimizing risk and maximizing loan recovery.

At Casa Lending, we pride ourselves on providing an exceptional borrower experience and maintaining healthy loan performance. As an Underwriter, you’ll play a critical role in loan closings by ensuring timely and accurate loan reviews and approvals. You’ll become an expert in evaluating credit risk and determining property valuations. We’re looking for detail-oriented, proactive professionals who excel in fast-paced environments while managing risk effectively.

What You’ll Do:

  • Pipeline Management: Support the efficient management of both the underwriting and closing pipelines, ensuring timely desk underwrites and successful loan closings, measured by the number and dollar value of completed loans.
  • Property Valuation: Utilize various resources, including public records, Zillow, Redfin, Realtor, and Trulia, to analyze comparable sales data and determine accurate property values (as-is and after-repair value).
  • Risk Mitigation: Follow standard procedures to mitigate risks and improve the likelihood of principal recovery by:
    • Developing a comprehensive analysis of project risks for each new loan.
    • Reviewing borrower-related documentation (e.g., credit reports, liquidity statements) to ensure alignment with established criteria.
    • Judging borrowers' creditworthiness based on thorough analysis of associated risks.
    • Collaborating with the production team to develop terms and pricing for pre-qualified loans.
    • Clearly presenting feedback and recommendations on funding decisions, supported by data.
    • Reviewing loan structure to define conditions that align with valuation and established criteria.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Assist the loan production team by ensuring all necessary documents are collected for properties associated with loans.
  • Third-Party Coordination: Work with third-party appraisal firms when discrepancies in valuation methods arise.
  • Policy Exceptions: Identify, review, and approve or reject policy exceptions and material issues, escalating to management when required.
  • Due Diligence: Complete property-related research in unique situations and document clear notes on findings during the due diligence process.
  • Delegated Work: Take on larger portions of delegated work assignments, including more complex loan scenarios.
  • Team Support: Assist team leads and managers in hiring, training, and onboarding new Real Estate Analysts.
  • Process Improvement: Serve as a curator for ideas to enhance operational efficiency, delivery, and employee experiences.

Requirements

  • Detail-Oriented: You have an eye for precision and ensure that all loan-related documentation and processes are handled accurately.
  • Risk Management: A strong focus on risk, developing strategies to mitigate it while ensuring the timely closing of loans.
  • Team Player: Collaborative mindset, working with multiple teams to ensure smooth operations and loan progression.
  • Proactive: You take initiative and work independently to solve complex loan scenarios and improve workflows.
  • Adaptability: Take on additional responsibilities as needed, with job duties subject to change.

Benefits:

  • Innovative Environment: Be part of a forward-thinking company at the forefront of the construction finance industry, with access to cutting-edge technology and resources.
  • Work Flexibility: Enjoy a flexible work environment that allows you to balance professional success with your personal life.
  • National Impact: Join a nationwide operation making a significant impact on real estate development and home building across the U.S.
  • Health Insurance: Casa Lending pays 100% of your medical insurance premiums, offering both PPO and HSA plans.
  • Competitive Compensation: We offer competitive salaries that reflect your expertise and contributions.
  • Paid Time Off: Take time to recharge with 3 weeks of paid time off each year.
  • Paid Holidays: Enjoy 10 paid holidays annually to spend quality time with family, friends, or on personal interests.

The total compensation for this role ranges from $60,000 - $75,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

At Casa Lending, we support you professionally and personally—because when you thrive, we all thrive.
