Summary: As a part of the Health Care Team, the Health Care Assistant assists in the daily operations of the School’s Health Center, providing healthcare services to students during the school year as well as campers during the summer months. Working under the supervision of the Director of Health Center (RN), the Health Care Assistant delivers care, including first aid, medication administration, and management of routine and acute student health needs.
Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the supervising RN:
Follow standards for school and camp health staff set forth by Sandy Spring Friends School, Montgomery County, Maryland State, and the American Camp Association
Organize, maintain, and utilize Health Center resources appropriately
Assist with ensuring student/camper health documentation is current and on file
Assist with the intake, storage, and inventory of medications
Administer medications under guidance of delegating nurse (with CMT certification)
Provide basic nursing care in accordance with established protocols
Utilize the electronic health record (EHR) to document each encounter
Respond to, manage, and record emergency incidents on campus
Manage notification of parents and relevant staff; follow-up as appropriate
Support annual health-related events and staff trainings, including flu & covid clinics, blood drives, and CPR/First-Aid classes
Check and maintain campus emergency supplies (AEDs, EpiPens, Naloxone)
Assist with management  and maintenance of employee health forms
Facilitate comprehensive care of health needs for homestay international students
Ensure the confidentiality of protected health information under HIPAA and FERPA
Qualifications and Requirements:
Medical Assistant (MA) with certification OR Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) preferred
Current American Heart Association-approved CPR/First Aid (Adult and Child) or BLS certification
Experience in first aid and emergency management
Desire to work with children and young adults
Knowledge of August Schools and Veracross platforms preferred
Ability to obtain Maryland Certified Medication Technician (CMT) License within 90 days of hire (paid by employer)
Physical Requirements:Â Daily desk work includes significant amounts of telephone and computer time as well as mobility around the entire campus. This includes frequent walking inside and outside, maneuvering stairs as a part of daily routines. Bending and squatting as required to participate in activities; lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds; and the ability to maneuver as necessary within a regular classroom and office setting.Â
Salary: $42,000 - $52,000/yearly
