A Grader Operator operates a motor grader to construct, maintain, and finish dirt, gravel, and aggregate roads. The operator is responsible for producing accurate road grades, maintaining proper drainage, and ensuring the finished surface meets project specifications.

Responsibilities

    • Operate a motor grader safely and efficiently on dirt and gravel road projects.
    • Build and maintain road crowns, slopes, ditches, shoulders, and drainage structures.
    • Perform rough and finish grading to specified elevations and tolerances.
    • Read and understand grade stakes, plans, elevations, and job-site instructions.
    • Maintain proper road surface conditions and correct ruts, potholes, washboarding, and other deficiencies.
    • Coordinate with dozer, loader, water truck, roller, and other equipment operators.
    • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report mechanical problems.
    • Perform basic equipment maintenance, including greasing and routine checks.
    • Follow company safety policies and OSHA/job-site requirements.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
    • Perform other duties related to road construction and site preparation as assigned.

Qualifications

    • Previous experience operating a motor grader, preferably on dirt-road or road-construction projects.
    • Ability to accurately control grade, slope, crown, and drainage.
    • Knowledge of dirt, gravel, and aggregate road construction practices.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
    • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
    • Strong commitment to safety and equipment care.

Physical Requirements

    • Ability to sit and operate heavy equipment for extended periods.
    • Ability to climb into and out of heavy equipment.
    • Ability to perform routine inspections and maintenance.
