Job Description Summary

Organization Summary Statement:
The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for the accurate and timely processing and monitoring of payroll appointments and benefits for faculty, staff, students, graduate students, and unpaid appointments within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and its subunits, including the Laboratory for Physical Sciences (LPS), the Cyber-Physical Systems Engineering Program at the University of Maryland at Shady Grove, and the University of Maryland at Southern Maryland Electrical Engineering Program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing bi-weekly payroll, onboarding and offboarding, and benefits processes for all employee types. The position will also maintain accurate personnel records for the department in compliance with all University, State and Federal regulations and record retention policies; establish working relationships with on-campus payroll and human resources departments; serve as a resource on payroll and benefits matters for faculty, staff and students; and handle visa processing for incoming and current visiting scholars.

Please note that this position has an in-person component and may require working at other locations from time to time.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: One (1) year of professional payroll experience. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of payroll policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable payroll related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances. Knowledge of payroll functions. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments. Ability to analyze situations and determine the best recourse for response.
