The Paraeducator, as a member of the instructional team, works under the supervision of the highly qualified classroom teacher and the principal. This person assists in implementing instruction and related services. Such assistance may include providing instructional assistance, guiding additional practice opportunities, re-teaching, and monitoring behavior.

Main Responsibilities:
Under supervision of a highly qualified Teacher, the Paraprofessional will

  • Implement school and district policies and procedures
  • Establish and maintain working relations with colleagues
  • Participate in planning sessions with the classroom teacher
  • Demonstrate creativity, flexibility, and perseverance in dealing with challenging learning, behavior, family, and classroom situations
  • Provide strategic instruction within the classroom for students who need support learning core curriculum
  • Provide support and supervision of students as assigned (during transitions, in special classes, during lunch, on the playground, etc.)
  • Assist in the administration and scoring of assessments used in monitoring individual progress
  • Assist with paperwork and clerical duties as needed
  • Any other duties/tasks as assigned by the building administration
  • Lifting/Transitioning students to specialized equipment
  • Delegated duties from Nursing staff

Qualifications:

Has obtained a HS diploma or GED and

  • Completed two years of full-time study at an institution of higher education equal to or greater than 48 semester hours, OR
  • Obtained an associate degree, OR
  • Passed the WorkKeys assessments for reading, writing and mathematics

AND

  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively under the direction of others
  • Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Demonstrates a willingness to assume all responsibilities assigned which are appropriate for the position

Physical Demands:

The work is mostly walking and standing with periods of sitting. Typical positions require workers to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; climb stairs, bend and crouch, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects, use fingers to operate computer keyboards, feel the shape, size and temperature of objects, and physically restrain students.
