Position Overview:
The Application Developer I is an early-career software developer responsible for developing, testing, releasing, and maintaining mobile applications supporting American Outdoor Brands' products and brands.
The App Developer I will specialize primarily in either Android or iOS development. Experience with both platforms is beneficial but is not expected.
Working with more experienced developers and cross-functional product-development teams, the App Developer I will implement application features, resolve defects, support application releases, and develop the technical skills necessary to independently own increasingly complex application features.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, test, and maintain mobile applications for Android or iOS.
- Implement well-defined application features and bug fixes.
- Write clean, maintainable, and documented production code.
- Participate in peer code reviews and implement review feedback.
- Collaborate with other Application Developers, Product Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Product Designers, Creative, Marketing, Ecommerce, and IT.
- Assist with integration of mobile applications with APIs, databases, connected products, and third-party services.
- Support Bluetooth/BLE integration where applicable.
- Develop and execute application tests.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application defects.
- Support application releases to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Assist with maintaining applications as operating systems, devices, SDKs, and platform requirements change.
- Follow established software architecture, source-control, testing, security, and development standards.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation as required.
- Participate in project planning and provide estimates for assigned tasks.
- Contribute ideas for application and connected-product improvements.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline required.
- 0–3 years of relevant professional software development experience.
- Academic, internship, personal-project, or professional development experience on either Android or iOS.
Competencies and Skills:Â
- Working proficiency in one of:
- Android: Kotlin or Java and Android development tools
- iOS: Swift and iOS development tools
- Understanding of object-oriented and/or modern software development principles.
- Familiarity with Git/source control.
- Basic understanding of APIs, networking, application security, and data persistence.
- Familiarity with mobile UI/UX principles.
- Familiarity with testing and debugging techniques.
- Bluetooth/BLE development experience beneficial but not required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies and development practices.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative development team.
 Physical Demands:Â
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- Some work is required in "off-hours" for business meetings/company events.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time in front of a computer.Â
- Ability to move about facility on regular basis to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking.

 Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:
- General office environment, with some exposure to plant environment, with fork lift and other general hazards.
- Exposure to the outdoors, unstable ground, and some climbing.Â
Within any of our facilities, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing and distribution operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.
- Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor
The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
