The receptionist receives and directs patients, visitors, physicians, and business associates by telephone communications as well as in person. Assists with patient referrals as needed. Sorts and distributes mail, posting any payments received by mail. Processing patient appointments including scheduling, securing or creating chart, coding charge tickets, collecting fees and obtaining any necessary signatures. Other duties as assigned and cross-training.

Education/Experience

Education: High School graduate or equivalent.

Experience: Prior experience with public is preferred with emphasis on courtesy. Basic knowledge of medical terminology is desired. On-the-job training will be provided. 

Skills

Organizational skills a plus.

Ability to read and write the English language. Spanish speaking preferred.

Medical terminology knowledge.

Telephone and public relation skills, communication skills.

Ability to comprehend messages and calls, receive and relay information and messages accurately.

Ability to make decisions based on the urgency of the situation in accordance with work procedures and hospital policies.

Ability to work well under pressure.

Expectations

Must have excellent customer relations and telephone skills. 

Must be willing to learn and demonstrate CQI concepts. 

Must be willing to learn and demonstrate management skills required for the position. 

Must maintain high ethical standards and confidentiality of patient information. 

Reports to work at assigned times. 

Maintains appropriate appearance by adhering to the hospital dress code. 

Demonstrates initiative by willingness to assume unassigned duties. 

Willingly assists other staff members.


Routine Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.
