Receives fabric, leather, COM, trims or other items to meet quality standards for completion of upholstered furniture orders.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Assists in unloading trucks, opening packages, and processing paperwork for all items sent inbound to complete furniture orders.
  • Verify and sign for quantity received.
  • Enter information into appropriate records systems; AS400 system, Fedx, etc.
  • Inspect items for quality control; determining flaws, damages, defects, color variation and pattern repeat issues related to particular furniture styles.
  • Compare colors, shapes, textures, or grades of products or materials with color charts, templates, or samples to verify conformance to standards.
  • Reject items not meeting specifications.
  • Record receiving, inspection or measurement data, such as weights, grades, and quantities inspected or graded.
  • Mark items with details such as grade or acceptance-rejection status.
  • Check items for directional tags and assign appropriate cut codes for order entry, if needed.
  • Notify supervisors or other personnel of quality problems.
  • Maintains neat and orderly work station.
  • Wears required safety glasses and other PPE as required; works safely and reports unsafe conditions to Dept. Supervisor.
  • Cross-trains in each type of receiving function and serves as backup resource.
  • Performs other duties as required by supervisor.  

 

Essential Skills and Experience: 

  • English required for reading tickets and job notes.

Must be knowledgeable in receiving methods to complete job to quantity specifications.

  • Must be able to recognize quality problems with fabrics, leather hides, color variations and pattern design.
  • Knowledge of item characteristics and repeat requirements for application to frame(s).
  • Self-motivated and able to work well alone or with others.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; basic computer skills.
  • Must be a team player, cooperative, and have a good attendance record.

 


Physical demands and work environment: 

  • Lift / Carry: ability to lift rolls weighing less than 80 lbs. frequently and up to 80 lbs. occasionally; team lift great weights or use mechanical lifting devices. 
  • Standing: Must be able to stand 8+ hours. 
  • Push / Pull:  Frequent push/pull motion associated with item positioning for measuring, storage (push) and delivery to cutters (pull). 
  • Reach / Handle / Grasp / Feel: Repetitive motions pinching, pulling, rolling, reaching across work table for manipulation of item.  
  • Environment: Indoors, environmentally controlled – 100%. 
  • Tool Usage: Required to use box utility knife, scissors, hand cutter, weighing, measurement tools throughout the shift. 
  • Automation: Use of pallet jack or fork truck, item carts and other tools to aid in lift and movement.  
  • Near Acuity: Requires close vision of less than 3 feet, with or without corrective lenses, for                                                 precision.
