Overview

Working across the North American plant network, the Operations Equipment Support Engineer will partner with Corporate Engineering staff to drive standardization and improvement to all maintenance processes and practices in plant equipment.

 Key areas of focus will include creating, optimizing, and replicating best practices in all aspects of Engineering Support for blow molders, IML systems, trimming equipment and other downstream and support equipment.

 The Equipment Support Engineer will also develop and audit pro-active, preventative, and predictive maintenance programs as well as provide root cause/Failure analysis support for plant equipment.

 This position reports to the Sr Operations Engineering Manager and requires 90% Travel.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uses problem solving tools such as A3 and 8D to solve problems.
  • Applies Technical Knowledge & Engineering Fundamentals of GPC’s production equipment to develop and test new designs and equipment improvements.
  • Complete annual PM’s. This includes either being able to lead a team of maintenance personnel or being able to complete the task on their own.  Includes documenting all necessary measurements or readings and filling out the required forms.
  • Go into an underperforming plant with direction from an Operations Engineer or other to assist with getting to the root cause of issues, working as a group to determine the root cause and taking the lead to implement the solution.
  • Being the subject matter expert on a piece of equipment in order to be able to train plant operators and maintenance personnel on the standardized procedure.
  • Work with Central Engineering to support major equipment overhauls and upgrades.
  • Assist equipment vendors with troubleshooting complex issues.
  • Responsible for reading equipment drawings and being able to give plant personnel the correct parts to order.
  • Understands required maintenance for tooling and molds.
  • Able to assist and / or lead changeovers.
  • Understands quality defects of a bottle and is able to correlate to equipment related issues.
  • Basic ability to read mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment prints.
  • Able to develop and manage equipment SOC’s.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting beyond the plant’s capability.
  • Able to develop improved methods and procedures based on existing machine conditions.
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and AutoCAD.
  • Understand and demonstrate basic bottle processing skills
  • Technical writing, including field reports, technical assessments, machine audits, and engineering change order or notifications.
  • Train in one on one and group environments, both on the floor and in the classroom.
  • Use strong influencing and communication skills to understand unique site needs and to effectively partner in delivering solutions.
  • Assess and recommend technical solutions to improve machine efficiency and effectiveness and/or reduce downtime.
  • Ensure site maintenance managers are engaged in the maintenance process and understand the options available from the operations engineering function.
  • Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), RCA, etc.
  • Evaluates/validates the impact of corrective actions that impact availability and/or reliability and leverages solutions across plants/site if appropriate.
  • Provides reliability input to Capital Project activities.
  • File weekly reports on engineering charge hours, travel and expenses.
  • Use data effectively to track progress and sustain results.
  • The performance of other duties not listed may be become necessary as business conditions dictate.

Qualifications

Core Proficiencies and Skills:

  • Must have the ability to represent the company’s interests with vendors and contracted technical staff.
  • Subject Matter Expert with blow molders, IML systems, trimming equipment and other downstream and support equipment.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering principles and life cycle cost analysis.
  • Must be excellent team player – able to motivate others to support corporate initiatives.
  • Must have strong ability to multi-task and be diligent on follow up.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • B.S. In a technical or engineering field is ideal.
  • 5 – 10 Years’ Experience in a plant environment, preferably plant maintenance and equipment reliability with an emphasis on blow molders, IML systems, trimming equipment and other downstream and support equipment.

The standard compensation for this role is $81,500 - $122,300. Salary offers will be determined based on final candidate qualifications, experience, skillset, and other relevant factors.

Compensation Statement

The expected salary range for the position described in this posting is made in accordance with the legal mandates of certain jurisdictions within the United States. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual qualifications and experience.
