Autoliv Promontory is currently accepting resumes for a Process Engineer to provide hands-on support and technical expertise within the manufacturing environment at Autoliv's Pyrotechnic Processing Facility in Promontory, Utah. This facility produces propellant materials that are incorporated into airbag systems used in vehicles across the globe. As a Process Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our operations through the implementation of innovative automation solutions, leadership of major capital projects, and development of manufacturing technologies that advance safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Job Description and Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced engineering support for powder processing equipment, including spray dryers, hoppers, tablet presses, filters, blenders, mixers, mills, and screening systems

  • Maintain safe operating practices for the processing, handling, storage, and transportation of pyrotechnic materials while ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards and regulations.

  • Lead troubleshooting of process and equipment issues using 8D problem-solving methodologies to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and improve operational reliability.

  • Manage capital projects, facility upgrades, and process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, reliability, throughput, and capacity.

  • Specify, evaluate, and implement new manufacturing equipment, including vendor coordination, installation, commissioning, and startup activities.

  • Identify and implement automation and robotic solutions to improve productivity, process consistency, and operational safety.

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, EHS, and Engineering teams to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards and business objectives.

  • Apply statistical tools and continuous improvement methodologies, including DOE and SPC, to optimize process performance and support data-driven decision making.

  • Provide technical recommendations and project updates to leadership

What is required:
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Minitab (or other statistical software), MS Office, and MS Project

  • Must have strong problem-solving skills and familiarity with 8D.

  • Must have working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methods and familiarity with Leading2Lean or equivalent.

  • Must have basic knowledge of PLC's.

  • Must be able to obtain an Employee Possessor Permit with US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives

  • Pyrotechnic processing and/or powder processing experience is preferred.

  • Must have integrity (accountability, keep commitments, etc.) and produce quality results.

  • Must have ability to lift 40 lbs. Must be able to climb ladders to access remote parts of buildings and processes.
